I was looking at the groups I posted with a AR-15 and a Mini 14 recently using that ammo, the groups weren't very stellar at all.Thought maybe I wasn't shooting good and blamed myself, but looking at some groups I did with those rifles using Winchester USA the groups were alot tighter with that ammo.

Unfortunately given the ammo situation choice in brands is limited right now,a local store has good supply of the Federal value packs so that is what I have been using, but I'm thinking maybe I should retest myself with those rifles using different ammo and determine if maybe it wasn't me and maybe the ammo,if I can find other brands...

So was wondering if any of you have used the value pack Federal and if it did you well or not?

Here is a pic of my Bushmaster when I first tested it to see where it was shooting,Winchester gave a decent group. Then with only Federal available I sighted it in to hit in the black but the groups were wide.

And also, here is a example I did with my Mini 14 with Winchester USA ,and then I tested it recently with the Federal and the results were again spread way out.

Well, i don't have any real groups, but i have a box or two of that. For me it groups okay*, but i am not the best of shooter either...and so this post was mostly usless.

*I can get about 2"-2.5", but with a match grade AR.

gvnwst, has Federal provided similar,or worse than other brands you may have tried? In other calibers Federal has been good for me,but I'm starting to wonder about the value pack ammo.

Looks like I need to get different brands and do more testing.Because specially with the AR accuracy should be better than what I got that day with Federal.

I shoot quite a lot of Remington 55 gr. and 45 gr. with decent results depending on which rifle I am shooting that day. Each rifle will like something different, at least that seems to be the way mine go. One of my SU16's is a 2.5-4" rifle with everything except Black Hills 52 gr. loads, with that it's magically a 1.25-1.5" gun.

Part of the fun is finding out what a specific SPECIMEN of gun shoots best.

Thus there is not specific recommendation anyone can give you as to what shoots best in your Bushie.

Enjoy!

I get about the same results using WOLF 62 grainers. WOLF is less money. I'd rather use WOLF. Only time I really would want brass cased stuff is hunting, or buying something like a Hornady Tactical load.

I've shot the 200 round and 100 round pack in my AR and I've gotten' pretty decent groups for "value" bulk ammo. My friend shoots wolf out of his and gets only a little worse. I'd say they were about 2" groups. I'm pretty satisfied with that, for the HD and zombie purpose of buying bulk ammo at least.

Agree with hadmanysons. If this is a SHTF rifle, if it shoots "minute of dude" then I'd throw whatever is cheap and readily available into it. Then again, my MP 15 is chambered for 5.45 X 39 so all I have is cheap, somewhat readily available "minute of dude" bulk pack wolf and silver bear around. I have a 7mm Rem mag for hunting... the AR is a defense rifle and plinker only.

Give me your empties, so I can reload them

Having fired thousands of rounds, I've yet to purchase loaded ammo. I have my primer-powder-bullet preferences regarding specific applications. .223 Remington is a versitile case from 36 Grain Barnes Varmint Grenades through 60 Grain Nosler Partitions, with everything between. 55 Grain Nosler Ballistic-Tips are extremely accurate and most deadly regarding Coyotes. Nearly any .223 Brass is re-usable, so leave it lying at the range; it will be scarfed up by someone knowledgeable. cliffy
