Thoughts on Para Ordnance?

im interested in a high cap .45 and i like the Para Ordnance Big Hawg (basicly a black version of there p14-45 PXT)
any thoughts on that pistol or there arms in general?
its not going to be used for carry or anything just used at the range and if need be protection at home (highly doubt anyone will break in but ya never know) im not looking for super accuracy just more so reliability so please no "elitists" telling me that this gun isnt up to par because its .00000000000004 off target thanks in advance
 
I think Para is great for the range. If you can tolerate a feed failure every three hundred rounds or so, you should be happy with it. Keeping the mags clean and with fresh springs helps.

I would have "killed" for one failure in 300 rounds. thats how much I loved my Para Carry 9, but it just did not love me back. Since have moved on. No one company makes such an in debt line of 1911 style handguns but Para. Because I had zero luck with mine might just be an unfortunate thing for me and my Para. I read great reports and bad reports. Todd Jarrett seems to do great with all of his... His 1000 round 10 minute record was supposably done with a para off the shelf with nothing done to it;);)
 
I have an older model was made in 1989, have had no problems out of it. Have heard nothing but bad things about the new production models.
I have over 70000 rounds threw mine and shoot it in limited class in USPSA.
 
I have a C-645 and a Para Bigh Hawg. Both are good shooting guns.

I had issues with the small C-645 when I first got it but since I have found a good load and bullet for it the gun is 100% reliable.

The Big Hawg has been nothing but reliable since I got it. With the alloy frame it is well balanced when loaded with 15 rounds of .45acp.

I had a Para High Cap for a while. It was not to my liking in that I had significantly more jams than I found acceptable. With that said, the guy that bought it from me has been happy with it. He may have known something that I didn't.
 
Lots of internet griping, but most owners are very happy with their purchase.

(Hint: there are very few Paras that are used at the guns shops... most people buy them and keep them...I have only gotten rid of one in a trade because I didn't have the cash to buy the new one outright)

Paras made in the Canadian factory are well made...

We will have to wait and see what the Para USA guns are like since the whole operation has moved to Florida.
 
TIMC has the exact model i was looking at the big hawg and im even thinking of a warthog 10 rounder as a "backup" (read: more for just owning another firearm lol) im pretty darn convinced about the big hawg now but what about the little 10 round warthogs any known issues there?

Correction - Nothing has moved ... yet. Para WILL be moving their manufactuting to North Carolina some time during the winter, either just before or just after the new year. They have had the Florida address for years, just as a name on the door in the U.S. Any Para you buy between now and the enfd of the year will be made in the Toronto factory.

I am an advocate of Paras. I had one P13.45 that gave me some problems. It was represented as NIB when I bought it from a gun shop, but I subsequently found out it had been owned previously and some internal changes made (not to the gun's advantage). Took me a lot of sweat to get it running, but now it's great and the problems were NOT the gun's fault.

By contrast, a new 12.45 and a new P14.45 were both flawless from the outset.
 
As has been said ---- you don't see many used Paras for much less then full retail price. I have owned eight but now only own these three.

Top --- a custom .38 Super , round ct. - over 20,000 rds. and this gun will go over 500 rds. between cleaning with NO FTF etc.

Middle -- a C.745 in .45acp, rd. ct. about 2000 and I love the LDA trigger for CCW.

Bottom -- P-14 Limited .45acp , rd. ct. over 10,000 and it is accurate as can be.

The .38 Super and .45 Limited are/were my main IPSC match guns for many years.
 
I have never had a problem with the C7.45 LDA, the 12-45 LDA Carry, or the 16-40 Limited. I agree with Gunfighter that the LDA triggers are fantastic and would add the C7.45 is a joy to carry.
 
I had a PXT 14.45 and it shot well. No problems or jams. I ended up selling it because I didn't really warm up to the 1911 platform.

But a good gun nonetheless.

They are good at making guns that look nice in the case, but when you get them home, they are junk. You want to like them, but...

You want a plinker 1911 that's decent.

Was it a Para single or double stack pistol? Its mag issues mostly with the double stack guns, cramming in that 14th round makes them prone to binding at the double to single transition. Glock, Springfield and others stopped at 13 rounds or less and have few magazine issues.

I had a P14-45 stainless that I sold, and currently have a P14-45 Limited. No problems with either, other than a worn mag spring in one 15-round mag causing feeding issues once. Fixed with a Wolff +10 spring.

YMMV
 
Never had a single problem with my Nite-Tac. It took some time for me to get used to the LDA, but nary a hiccup in 5(?) years. Ask me again in 10 years, that'll be a better indicator.
