Anyone have an opinion of the Pietta 1862 Army Police Revolver. I'd like to hear your positive and negative comments on this piece. The Uberti version looks nice and I assume is a more accurate representation but the Pietta is $100 cheaper.

It is true that it is not a true representation of a Colt Police.
That was a five shot made on the smaller frame of .31 caliber, with a rebated semifluted cylinder.
But, the Pietta revolver is a nice gun. I've had one for awhile; it's reasonably accurate and a nice revolver. The flutes look a bit odd to me -- I think because they seem a tad short in relationship to the length of the cylinder. I believe the flutes on the SAA are longer.
I guess it's about what's worth more to you; the $100 dollars or the less expensive Pietta.
It is basically a 1861 Navy Colt with a shorter barrel and semifluted cylinder.

As Tommygunn sadi, the Pietta is a short barrelled 1861. The Uberti is a closer representation of the Pocket Police, small frame, 5 shot, rebated cylinder in 36 caliber.

The Pietta is built on the same frame as is used for the 1860, 1851 and 1861. The Uberti uses the frame for the Baby Dragoon.

I have a Colt and Uberti Pocket Police. Both are beautiful revolvers. The Uberti is very close to the Colt. The fit and finish for the Uberti is great. If you can compare the Pietta to the Uberti, you will notice just how different they are.

Pietta is terrible about naming their revolvers! You would think a name like 1862 Army Police would be a Pocket frame revolver. Not with Pietta, it's a holster frame, a short barreled 61 Navy is what it is.
