Hey everyone,

I currently have an M&P15 and a couple of Spikes Tactical lowers that I purchased and put away. I have not been in any rush to build a second AR but I do look around at parts from time to time.

I just saw AR Stoner carbine kit at Midway. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/629883/ar-stoner-m4-carbine-kit-ar-15-556x45mm-nato-16-barrel-daniel-defense-ddm4-rail?cm_mmc=pe_weekly-_-clearance-_-clearance-_-20150710

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and input on this product and it's quality as well as any other considerations you might mention to a newbie.

Thank you.

I have seen some of Midways Stoner parts and although adequate there are better kits in the market. PSA routinely has premium or freedom kits that are reasonably priced and of good quality. Check Brownells they have had kits lately, a Nitride (melonite) coating or chrome lined bore is a good selling feature and most of the BCG's advertised in the 100 buck or better range have upgrade features. Shop around...Aim has uppers from Spikes and others and their niBoron X is the best carrier i have found for the price. Del Ton has some nice stuff but watch for chrome lined barrels ( although the standard non chrome rifle i have shoots like a tack.

That could work out to be a decent deal. Budget priced AR's are going for $500.00. That one has a Daniels Defense hand guard. Buys a $50.00 lower and you ready to go.

Non-chrome lined, 4140, 1:9 twist barrel would be uninteresting to me.

I would rather go fish in PSA's pond right now.

Yep. Plus a carbine buffer is to light weight. Go to PSA and get a kit with a FN barrel.

I gotta agree with the above, check out PSA. The DD rail is only on it to sell the whole sub par kit. Its the lipstick on the pig. (it probably isnt a BAD kit, but you can do better)

The carbine buffer is only too light if the barrel is improperly gassed. Which being a budget kit we can probably assume it is.

I can't help but wonder...

What is the "Stoner" connection?

Other than the original designer of course - why prominently disply the name?

I expected a "retro" kit.

Todd.
