So heres the deal when i was a kid i sawed my first 410 single shot down like alot my dad threw the barrel away. This firearm is irreplaceable and from a very important man no longer with us.
I would like to rebuild it but cannot find a barrel. What are your thoughts on converting it to a single shot centerfire rifle possibly a few dif bbls? Its an fie brazilian 410 i am just trying to rectify a grave mistake. Also im in the process of building a new stock.

Hmm, not many would get on a forum and admit to a felony, but the answer is no. One, if you can't find a barrel in .410, finding one in a rifle caliber will be a lot harder. Two, if you are not a gunsmith, (and even if you are in this case) the cost would be well over the worth of the gun , either before or after. Your best bet is finding another .410 barrel over 18" and resotring it that way. Use your Google-fu.

Keep an eye on Numrich to see if they get any in stock. They do list parts for FIE shotguns.

The only rifle barrel that I would trust on a single shot shotgun frame is a 22lr. Most single shot shotgun receivers will NOT hold up to the pressures of centerfire rifle rounds.

Numrich is a good start, but watch on Gunbroker with the name “Gunbusters” and you may find what you need there. They sell a lot of single shot shotgun part kits (disassemble and discard the receiver is all they do) and they are typically in the $60-80 range after shipping. Better than buying a complete shotgun for $80 paying 20 shipping and 25 transfer.

Well, I've thrown away more money on a project with less compelling reasons than you have, so if cost doesn't stop you, go ahead -- but have a qualified gunsmith handle the fitting of a replacement barrel! Stockwork isn't as big a deal to do yourself if you are patient and have a supply of bandaids.

Alternatively, there is a saying that a regiment which has lost nearly all its men in battle and been brought back up to strength remains the same regiment. The same goes for a drink that your refill before completely emptying. I understand most cells in the human body are replacements many times over. So here's a thought: find and buy the same model on Gunbroker and swap as many parts as you can over to it from your dad's gun. Consider it a soul transplant.

Personally, I wouldn't sink too much into it. These guns were all made by Boito/CBC in Brazil, and imported by the boatload in the 70's and 80's. A cheap gun to be sure, but serviceable. Several years ago I found the receiver and barrel of a 12 gauge CBC while fishing on the river. Never could find a forearm, so I just made one out of a piece of walnut scrap. The barrel was cut off at 19", so I just keep it by the bed loaded with buck shot. Good enough for that job. A search shows a stock on E-bay right now, but it may be for the previous model. I can't tell for sure. I also seem to think that the frames were all the same size and different barrels can be fitted to them. There are a couple barrels on E-bay also, and one is only 40 bucks so it might be worth looking into. As long as you don't spend over 80 or 100 dollars you should be ok. The guns themselves can be had on Gun-broker for slightly less than $100. See this listing: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/852209036 or this one: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/853278441

Not worried about cost as i will be doing everything from milling the barrel lug. The extractor system and drilling / rifling the barrel. I toyed with the idea of turning it into a 22 mag 22 long 17 hmr 3 dif barrels i have a huge problem buying another gun to disassemble. Just curious if anyone has done it would be cool to turn this cheap sentimental gun into something i can be proud of. As far as fitting the barrel on a single shot break barrel rifle its pretty straight forward high school shop class level of milling.

Thanks for the links and the info guys. I really appreciate you all

Numrich has 16ga barrels available for about 50 bucks. Id be surprised if there was more than 1 frame size, but i know nothing about these guys.
If you decide to build up a barrel I think sticking with the rimfires would be a good choice, tho a .32 auto would be a neat one too.

If you go centerfire, look on eBay at “barrel liner” material. They have a bunch of stuff available that is rifled and chambered. I considered building a 45 barrel for my 16ga but I have other projects to work on first.

I think ive been talked into a 25 acp im gonna start gathering the parts but i saw a guy made a 22 barrel out of rebar i wonder how that would hold up to 25 auto. I think this would be a cool little mad max rifle some well placed aesthetic rivets in my new stock here and there and a innertube sling with beer cap badges... Im already seeing it.

Oooh if i can get a few barrel liners from ebay and thread the ends like a choke tube i could make a barrel from rebar and have a few dif thread in barrel liners for 25acp 22 mag and 17hmr. Thanks for the tip on them barrel liners they even come rifled.

I have a single shot 20 gauge shotgun made in Brazil my father bought for me at Woolco when I first made all A's on my report card. It was either 1973 or maybe 1974. Anyway I still have it but it hasn't been fired since 1984. If you're interested in purchasing it shoot me a PM with external email address.
