August match posted

As promised I have posted the September match in time for you to go out and shoot it this weekend along with the August match.

Some scoring clarifications:

Your score is for a completed hand only unless you do not make at least a pair. It is not the points for a hand "plus" the remaining cards.

[Souris -please take note of the above....and welcome to the match!]

Also, Aces can be scored high as 11 points.

[Navy87guy - I don't know how you came up with 36 for A, Q, J, 10 .....2! ]

a flush was intended to be 5 different cards of the same suit nut, since I didn't make that clear we will accept 5 cards including repeats as flushes this month.

[pauli - you are Ok under this ruling! Also welcome to the match!]

Because I can't read! I'm used to counting face cards 11, 12 and 13 (J, Q, K) -- you were counting them 10 each. So I guess if I count the A as 11, that gives me a revised total of 43. It still wouldn't have been an issue if I could have hit the darn K!

Jim,
OK. I understand now;Except you left off the 2 and the 10 and that really threw me. If you scored your way for all the cards it would have been 11 + 12 + 13 + 10 + 2.

This is a good example of why it is wise to post a picture of your target or, at the very least describe your hits. It allows us to work out any scoring issues as they may be identified.

Thanks for the extension, photo_guy. I finally was able to shoot the targets at a make-shift range we have at a mountain getaway. It's more challenging than it appears due to the varying target (cards) sizes. No benchs or sand bags available so I couldn't shoot any supported groups.

Of course I tried for a Royal Flush on the first two, and failed miserably on the first or second shot of each group. Oh well.

THR NAME: Mal H
CLASS: Scoped Pistol (Ruger MK512 w/Red dot)
Distance: 10 yards
Hand/Score: 4 of a kind = 90
(4 Aces, missed the King on the second shot, so I just shot the last 3 at the Ace.)

THR NAME: Mal H
CLASS: Scoped Rifle (Marlin 917)
Distance: 25 yards
Hand/Score: 3 of a kind = 70
(three 4's, one Ace, one 5)

THR NAME: Mal H
CLASS: Rimfire rifle (buckhorn iron sights)
Distance: 25 yards
Hand/Score: 4 of a kind = 90
(four 5's, one 9)

This was a borrowed rifle of unknown make. The owner said it was made by "Canadian Limited". Never heard of it and can't find it referenced anywhere. It shot fairly well though. I actually went for the center of the paper (5's) since I knew that was my best chance at repeatability with iron sights and poor eyesight. I got the tightest group of all with that little rifle - go figure.

photo_guy, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd be willing to bet that elric would see that he got a Royal Flush with his 8" Python if he put an Eze-Scorer in the hole in the 9. Looks like it is touching the 10 to me.

Mal H, Well, it is very close. The rule we are using is that it must break the line. Unfortunetly, it looks like elric use some wadcutters which made a nice, clean hole. I'll be a FMJ would have ripped the paper just enough to break the line. It is hard to see in the scan, even after blowing it up a bit. I'm leaving it as elric scored it. If elric looks at it again and sees that it did brak the line I'll update the scores appropriately. Still some nice shooting!

Match Score Summary

Not a bad turnout this month. I'm glad to see lots of new people giving the matches a try.

Elric and Cropcirclewalker were able to hit Royals. elric came very, very close to doing it twice. Nice shooting guys.

Pauli also proived some entertainment this month by trying to use a shotgun (with birdshot no less). There is always one wise-guy who trys something "unique". Gotta love it.

Hope you all can try next months match as well.

Yup, I was using full wadcutters, so the hole you see is the full bullet diameter. Didn't quite make it to the 10. Wasn't quite sure back at 10 yards, so I kept my fingers crossed as I walked to the target, but as Maxwell Smart'd say, "Missed it by that much!"

The 8" Python doesn't like that wadcutter load as much as the 6" does. I'll try to find some time to load the 158 gr SWC load that it loves in time for the next match .

Anyhow, thanks for trying to help out my score :)
