Thrown in Jail for using reloads in Self Defense?

Can you go to jail for using your own reloads for self defense? Is it true? What are the legal aspects of it? Or is it just myth?

Use of deadly force in self defense comes with a risk no matter what is used.
I have no proof but would guess that there have been many more threads on this subject started and locked than people sent to jail over reloaded ammo.
