Tip off mounts on dove tailed aluminum receiver?

    I'm guessing that steel tip off mounts are not a good idea on the likes of Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60, and that aluminum ones should be used.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Not a problem if you don't use a 2 foot cheater bar to tighten the screws.

    Anyway, the Ruger 10/22 uses a seperate screw-on scope base and doesn't clamp directly to the receiver, as it is not grooved for a tip-off mount.
