I've been surfing e-bay looking for a scope.....

There is a seller named BRGroup sales (almost 2500 transactions and a feedback rating of only 95%....and the feedbacks are not viewable:scrutiny: ) who is listing some unbelievable deals

BURRIS FULLFIELD II 3-9X40 RIFLESCOPE NEW current bid $50 w/ only 9 hours left

ZEISS 4.5-14X44 CONQUEST MATTE Z-PLEX w/ SIDE FOCUS current bid $41 w/ only 9 hours left

Now I realize that these may get bid way up in the last minutes.....but it raises a question.

Are there "fake" (made in China clones) out there?:uhoh:

Any stories or experiences?

The only way that merchandise is authentic is if it was stolen. Come on... A Burris Fullfield costs at least $200 for the cheapest and Zeiss scopes are more than that. It smells fishy, especially when the reviews are not readable.

I've passed on deals by this specific seller on more than a few occasions due to the fact that he/she has elected to make their feedback invisible. I have to presume, in an overabundance of caution, that anyone not willing to let their feedback be viewed by prospective buyers is trying to hide SOMETHING.

I suspect that these are grey-market, sample, demo, or refurb scopes. There is no other way for the prices to hit the point that he sells 'em. They will shoot up, but still sell for less than anyone else's US-warranty units.

All but two of my Leupolds came from e-bay, I have been happy thus far. I must say there I did not pay that little for them although I did pay much less than retail.

I have seen some sellers pushing Leupold imitation scopes from China so read your descriptions carefully also, they should list where the seller is. Do you have alinks to the mentioned auctions?

here's one link

not sure if I put this in correctly....it's item #7240562462

click on the link to go to other auctions and see more.

I've seen the Honda small engine clones on ebay.....even considered buying one.

But it was advertised as just that ... a clone.

with optics....quality of the lenses is critical....can't knock that off in a Chinese factory very easily.

I'm not going to buy it.....I'm just wondering if anyone has ever actually heard about cloned scopes....like Rolex watch clones.

in just the past 30 days of this seller's auctions, 20% of the buyers have had unsatisfactory results...that right there tells me not to bother. That's some pathetic feedback and to make it worse, they keep the specific feedback private!

a quality seller wouldn't try to be "evasive" about anything.

I've been on Ebay for 8-1/2 years, and it's been my experience that you can multiply the percentage of negative feedback by 10% to get a pretty good idea of what the seller is like.

People are very reluctant to leave a negative feedback for fear of retaliation, so the negatives are typically a lot fewer than they should be.

I would never do business with someone whose feedback rating is 95%, especially for fairly expensive items. Hidden feedback is another huge red flag for me.

Ebay used to be fun. Now it's just another hustle.
