I took advantage of 50 degree temperatures to head out to Kettle Moraine State Forest. I carried a M&P Subcompact 40, loaded with Underwood's 200 grain hard cast ammo. Deer hunting season is ending here and people do hunt in this forest, so precautions as to not be mistaken for a deer were necessary.

Well, I was outside and enjoying myself. I was rewiring the lift on the back of my pickup. I chose to carry.

Sat in a couple of different stands while hunting yesterday.
My carry choices were my MarkV Weatherby in 7rm. A fixed blade Buck 105. I carried my Bond Arms Rowdy 45/410, my Rowdy was feeling neglected because I haven't carried it recently. View attachment 1117241

I have hunted Kettle Moraine many years ago when I work at Point Beach. Beautiful area. Just too many people with guns around me. Hope the hike was relaxing

I went hiking on the Seven Bridges Trail yesterday.



Those Granite Boulders in the creek bed are slippery. I have slipped and fallen before. I wouldn't have gone out on that one except there was dirt to stand on on top of the boulder.

I always carry my Glock 19 and my Buck 110 and Gerber Multitool.


In the winter I wear REI hiking pants because they are quick dry. And there's not a lot of pocket space so I don't carry any other knife except my Gerber Srongarm which lives in my pack

.

Okay and now that we've got the gun porn out of the way. The farther west I went on the trail the deeper the snow got and the slicker the rocks got. I never fell but I slipped enough times to wrench my right hip and my right knee and my lower back (none of which work right anyway).

So I only made it to the end of the Seven Bridges Trail before I had to turn around. The following are trail shots that I took.

Loud's Cabin. If you look just to the right of the chimney you can see the wash tub hanging on the wall.


Some idiot hung this wash tub inside the ruins and used it for a target. I don't mind people shooting in the mountains I think it's a phenomenally stupid thing to do in an area where there are a lot of people hiking but I don't mind it in general. Also, I don't know if it shows in the picture but Mount Garfield slopes up right behind the cabin so they did have a back stop.

What bothers me is that this cabin is considered a historic site and whoever did that is literally ruining the cabin for the rest of us.

I made a quick tripback to the timber to hang a new Christmas cell cam for my 88yo dad.
While I was back there a made a quick stop at my Overlook camp.

I also replaced the dead batteries in my cell cam that watches my cabin.
Here's a pic of a couple of guns that I brought along.
My trusty woods gun the sr9c and a caulking gun to try to keep the mice on the outside.

Packing for a three week vacation. Our four month long vacation has changed to a few shorter trips during the next four months, because of some family matters.
8 degree high and -5 low today. I'm thinking TN and SC will be warmer.


I'm only traveling with my XDM compact 45acp with magazine of 230 hp and a magazine of 255 +p hardcast. It is also a little test for me. I normally have carried a small handgun in my pocket since I started carrying.
This is a test for carrying a large pistol for my primary. I would like a 10mm so will it be only a backup for a j frame? If not something that I'm comfortable with as a primary carry. A Shield Plus or Hellcat may be my next purchase if the XDM is uncomfortable for the next three weeks. I never worried about capacity, but it is never a bad thing to have a few extra rounds available .

I hope to post several pictures of the great outdoors during this trip!

I would put that in a crossbreed supertuck with crossbreed belt and be happy. Only downside to IWB is going up a waist size in your jeans. For me it is all about the belt. I have a thin Carhartt belt that is almost worthless for carry. Does not matter IWB or OWB. With a belt meant to carry with it is a different story.

We are predicted to have a couple of days where the high temp is single digits.
I decided to use the last minutes of daylight to run back to the hunting blind and get my canned goods before they freeze and burst.
I reached inside the gunsafe and took a hold on a gunbarrel....pulled out a T/C performance center 22lr auto. I have had a coyote on the trail cam this week. Put the 22back in and felt for another rifle barrel....out came a .204 handi with 10rds in the ammo sleeve....that'll do!.

I dropped the Handi-Rifle in the rack and pointed the Honda to the blind. I wasn't yet out of the yard and I could see more than a dozen deer feeding in the cornstalks between me and the blind. I don't like scattering game at dusk, but I was already committed. Apparently they could sense the cold front headed towards us and were stocking up on groceries. They held their ground for a while then scattered in a chaos of tails. There were some antlers in the bunch but no trophies.
I reached the blind and boxed up the cans of chili and chicken gumbo...tossed the bread in the fire ring. Emptied the mousetraps and headed back home.

A pretty uneventful trip...but always good to get I to the wild....even for a few minutes.

I decided to take walk in RMNP a couple days ago. It wasn't all that cold, but it got very windy towards the end.


I took the usual G20, and a new Benchmade Griptilian.



It may have been 45 degrees, but it looked much colder up in those mountains.

We were there in July. It's beautiful there. I'm a little jealous of you right now being able to hike there

My three week vacation got cut to one week, because of a family member needing surgery and someone to stay with her after the surgery.
We spent one day in Cades Cove.


In addition to my XDM 45acp and my pocket Victorinox I had these two tools with me. They have found a permanent home in my waist pocket of my day pack.


We spent a few days in SC to stop and see friends, but no fun hikes. We did enjoy the James Island Christmas Lights. A must see if you are in the Charleston area at Christmas time.

I spent half the day today stomping around in a preserve of marsh, wetlands, and deep lakes, made from a former ranch and quarry. It was hot but breezy, and I knew there wouldn't be anyone else around (we had five solid inches of rain last night.) Just some good old, get-out-and-stretching space, and I enjoyed every minute of it. A four-mile, 4x4 drive on the mud trail around the largest lake finished out the day, in my old, rusted-out '97 Grand Cherokee woods wagon.

On my hip the whole time was a Remington R1S Enhanced Commander .45, and in the watch pocket of my jeans was a NAA .22LR mini.

I threw the pic together when I saw the thread. I had taken the Jeep pic before heading back into town..

I have that same exact Jeep. !!! Same wheels, except right now/winter I have a set of knobbies I run on it, on older jeep steel rims. When I saw that picture, I really wondered how someone got a picture of my jeep. !

The young and dumb social media crowd considers that "un-hip" and anything bigger than a pocket or folding knife will put you on the un-cool list and get you kicked out of the club. I guess just recently they got in a big tizzy with all their panties tied in a knot because someone was carrying a spear. !!! Did you carry concealed or open? Either way, good for you.

Lol, my view is if it’s legal and I’m alone in the middle of nowhere hiking, it’s prudent to have a firearm. There have been some murders on the Appalachian Trail over the years. Pa allows for open carry, but to avoid the snowflake issues I conceal carry. On the trail I prefer OWB under a jacket or shirt
