Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

One day I took a powerful bow, some nasty arrows, and the Plains Pistol .50" on a very long trek into the mountains. Encountered mama bear and cub, and listened to the wolves howl at the end of the day. Ain't she purdy? Bow-handle wrap required for heavy loads. Yes, I load it to the limits of recoil tolerance. :) Don't hate me for that.

In the Smokies this week.
After carrying my XDM 45acp compact for three weeks or so mostly in my front pocket. I decided to switch to something smaller in size. I have been neglecting my Taurus 605 357mag. I have it loaded with 180gr hardcast loads from HSM. They are a little slower than Buffalo Bore or Underwood, but still deliver the lead slug at a good clip.

My wife and I hiked in the Eklmont area along Little River.

I use wax on all non moving parts. Bolts get a light coat of atf.
Since I made this change, I don't fight rust as often.
I does make for a smoke show in my AR the first couple rounds.

Use a flap holster. Pistol never gets wet. Just saying.

That does work for pistols. I use a shoulder rig. So it stays dry.
My post about wax was on rifles and shotguns because I carry them in the woods more than handguns.

Yes, got it. I too almost always carry a long gun/pistol combination. Heavy caliber pistol and a .22LR rifle, or .22Hornet rifle, or .22 pistol (or .38spl, something like that) and a powerful rifle. Most often I'll carry a rifle (cartridge or BP) and a cap-n-ball pistol. All depends on the mood! :)

I ended up post holing most of the way uphill, up to my thighs in places, and
got my boots soaked. But I got as far as I could go before I started losing the cairn trail on the ridge.

No show shoes? Sometimes I take them with me, in case I have to cross some deep snow but don't need them otherwise. Tie them together with some rope, make a loop or sling, and just sling them over my back or along my side. They don't weigh much. Yesterday (was it yesterday?) I took them thinking I wouldn't need them, but after about 150 yards put them on and was sure glad I had them.

No, not at all. It’s low on the frame so it doesn’t impact my balance. Normally I just carry IWB on my bike, but on a longer ride I bring a Camelback. That throws my balance more than anything.
Right, I can carry my Super Blackhawk on the bicycle, don't matter, you adjust your balance without even thinking about it.

Hiking in Cades Cove yesterday. We saw a dozen whitetails. Three of them were nice 8-10 point bucks. We didn't see any black bears.

My carry was my Taurus 605.

I stopped by a hiking shop in Gatlinburg that I have purchased gear for hiking from.
They had the same model knife that I purchased from Walmart for $20 priced at $40. I like to buy from small business and don't mind spending more but that is not reasonable.

I chose the Glock 29 10mm. A real joy to carry and confident it will be able to take care of just about any problems or unforseen events along the way.

Yesterday, the 13 mile Everglades Walking Trail from the Everglades Highway south to US 1. Its great this time of the dry season to see hundreds of alligators and the occasional crocidile along the way!

Also pelicans and ospreys. No Boa Constrictors were sighted!

All in all a most enjoyable 5 hours.

I just wanted to send you all an FYI about GSMNP.
They are implementing a parking pass starting 3/1.

With the huge increase in users the past few years and no increase in funding they have to find a way to increase funds to maintain roads.
Also check TN carry laws to see if your CCW is alowed.
Then the fun part which carry???

And study up on your Big Foot defense

According to www. Airboattours.com
there are approximately 3,000 crocodiles living in the Everglades ecosystem.

I've alligators on the beach twice. I've seen a seal on the beach in Florida. I've caught a loggerhead on hook and line ten miles from the ocean. I've caught 3 coral snakes.

Never seen a crocodile or a bear. And there's enough of them I should have come across one by now.

The group would love to see pictures.
I have not spent anytime in the everglades. On the bucket list

Took my bike out for a ride into the countryside the other day. 40 degrees and not too bad out. I had my Glock 23 on my side.

Hopefully headed into the woods for some antler sheds the next few weeks.

That's a good looking bike.
I hope it has heated seats.
I found my first shed last year on January 15th.
