Yesterday I shaped some mammoth and bone/fake stag...that smell, ugh. Anytime I see bone material much respect for the makers that use it and manage the "aroma".

Neither does JShirley, but I love it. Others don't care. The beauty is folks don't buy what they don't like or buy what they do like in the world of hand-made knives. They just don't usually bother to say anything about it because folks don't care about personal tastes like that.

In defense of stag (I like it as a material, but that's a personal thing), it has some very good practical qualities - it has a natural "grippy" surface and it tends to stick to your hands, like bone & ivory. Those two make for a rather secure grip. So it's not just for the looks... And Todd's work is amazing - I'm avid admirer of his knives since his very first post here on THR.
