I suppose pride of ownership means different things to different gun owners.

for me ownership goes hand in hand with usage which must be accompanied by a certain level proficiency.

Maybe that's why it's seems logical for me to own fewer guns and be satisfied.

Sort of a "Beware of the man with one gun" kind of thing, huh huntsman?:D
Just kidding around. Thankfully, where I live, how many is "too many" is not up to anyone else - not yet anyway.:)

In my mind the criteria is how many do you want? If you can afford them buy as many as you see fit to own !!!
As soon as I figure I have what I need , I always seem to want one more .

If I have to explain it....never mind. Read post 121 again. Think Samuel L. Jackson credit card commercial.

Too many guns? No, I probably have more than I need, but not all I want!

I think in this case, the person's budget is the deciding limit.

If you can afford it, there is no limit to how much guns/ammo you can have. If the safe is getting full and the bank account is still full, you can always buy more =]

I'm getting close to the end, as far as buying guns goes. With the gun I'm almost certain to win tomorrow, I will only be wanting two more revolvers. I will start looking for an S&W 29 or 629, and then maybe a 25 to go along with it. As far as semiautos go, I'm about 4 or 5 away from the end there too. After that, a .357 lever action, and that's probably going to be it for me. Not anywhere near total what one of my friends has in revolvers alone, but more than enough for me.

I was at 72 guns, semi-retired now and looking at building our retirement home up on the lake, which will be considerably smaller since my wife is also retiring from housework. The wife says I need to be able to get rid of two safes full to fit in the new house plan, so I figure I need to let around 40 or so move on so I can get down to having enough.

My rule is that I have to have a use for it. My father is the type to want one of every caliber. Which leaves his safe cluttered and most unused. If I can think of a specific purpose for a caliber than it is justifiable. This stems mostly from having to try and convince the wife as to why I need another gun. Why buy more guns if Im not shooting the ones that I have. With that said finding a specific purpose isnt that hard. 270-Deer, 223-prairie dog, 300 win-Elk, etc.

I like my collection. It`s really an individual thing . If one gets enjoyment ,by having a nice gun collection , do it. We`ll only be here for a short period of time.,have some fun.,enjoy

Even though "we" all already know all the answers to the OP, it's still fun to see what witticisms and bonnes mot our ever-serious sort come up with.

As likely has been correctly pointed out: the problem isn’t ‘too many’ guns, but not enough time to enjoy them.

We went through a time of needing cash and I was reloading too many different cartridges, so I downsized. I regret almost every sale/trade of every firearm that went out my door to some degree. Since then Ive purchased more firearms than I even owned at the time and now Im loading even more cartridges than before! Will there ever be "enough?" No! Will I have all the bases covered? Yes! And then some!

My collection by numbers has stayed about the same for the last five years. The quality of those in the collection has increased considerably. When I was younger the semi's were all I wanted, now I have a collection of all sorts of bolt action, lever actions, and single shots. Some I never shoot, some I want to let loose. I don't think I have too many.

Much to my wife's dismay, I do not believe such a point exists.
