Too tight holster

I have a Kramer horsehide pocket holster that I can't use because my j frame fits it so tight that the holster always comes out of the pocket if I try to draw the weapon.

Is there any thing I can use to remedy this?

Its leather so you can stretch it.

Wrap your gun in plastic wrap (make sure no moisture can get in ... also the more layers of wrap you use, the looser you will make the holster) ... get the holster wet (not deep soak, just dunk it real quick in bowl of warm water).

Stuff your wrapped roscoe into it and let it sit overnight.

That should stretch it well enough.

(I'm sure there are more refined methods, but this one should work)


Some folk will say used wax paper instead of plastic wrap ... and don't wet the holster, but leave the gun in for a couple days.

How do I loosen my holster if it is too tight?

The outer dimensions of specific models of guns can vary considerably between individual guns. For instance a Colt Government Model can have as much as 20 thousandths of an inch difference in outer dimensions, depending upon age, finish, manufacturer, etc,etc. Consequently we prefer to have our holsters start out on the snug fitting side. Should it be necessary to loosen your holster, take the plastic bag that the holster cam in and wrap it around the gun. Insert the UNLOADED gun into the holster and let it set for several hours. This will stretch the leather approximately two or three thousandths of an inch. If necessary, wrap the gun with two bags. You can use up to three bags to stretch the holster. If this is still not successful, give us a call and we will be happy to adjust the fit for you.

Holster Break In

Carefully unload the weapon and wrap it with 2 layers of wax paper (with the wax to the outside), and seat it fully into the holster. Let it sit overnight. Next, work the weapon in and out of the holster a few dozen times. Remove the paper and try it. If it is still too tight, then repeat the process with 3 layers of wax paper. Continue until you get it close to the desired fit (be sure not to overdo it - it is rather difficult to un-stretch leather). Discard the paper and do a few dozen practice draws. The holster should now be sufficiently broken in to allow you to wear it and finalize the break in process. This is done by repeatedly drawing the weapon while the holster is actually being worn. Be advised that a properly broken-in holster should retain the weapon during vigorous physical activity, yet still release the firearm for a smooth draw.

Do not apply oil of any kind to any Brommeland product.
