He's an engineer, down here for a conveyor rebuild. He's never shot a handgun before. First gun is an Uberti Sheriff's model in .45 Colt, loaded with the good stuff. Then a Uberti in .357Mag, loaded with the boring stuff. Then me with the Sheriff's. He was the first to ever shoot this gun, I gave him the privilege of the first shot.

I have now taken several Canadians shooting. It is difficult to get them to stop. I usually try to not start with them before 3 PM or so, that I may go home before 9 PM. Shooting is an instinctive and inbred activity to humanity which is why the most ardent anti-gunner usually has his own weapon..... But,,,,, that is different.

When you go visit them, have them take you out shooting short-barrelled shotguns. They are not restricted further than any other shotgun up there, unlike down here. Also have them study their laws. One can own pistols up there, it's similar to getting an NFA weapon here, though.:(

Yeah, he didn't know he could own a handgun, and may not be able to in Quebec, I think they're a bit stricter, not sure. Anyway, I told him about all the CAS clubs up there, and they all own handguns. Kinda surprised him.

I had the same privilege last year,,,

I had the same privilege last year,,,
I was nervous as there were 9 of them.

But no-one made any safety breaches,,,
And we went through a LOT of ammunition.

They were all young adults except for the matriarch and patriarch,,,
Everyone had a great time and I made new friends.

This one of the young ladies I met.

Good on you my friend.

Good for you!

My gun club is hosting the world bench rest match this week. It ends Saturday. The Aussies are staying over a day extra and we're going to let them shoot call the stuff they can no longer have back home. So Sunday they'll be able to play with SBRs, AR15s and lots of autoloading pistols. Should be a fine time for all.

Aarond, trust me. We have our share of widgets up this way that do stupid and unsafe things with guns. You found a good bunch that actually listened and respected the guns and your advice. Thankfully they are more typical than the other end of the spectrum.

There is certainly no doubt at all that our handgun and firearms competition interest is very much an underground sort of affair. And that is certainly going to bite us in the backside one of these days. Pretty much the only time Ma and Pa Canuck hear anything about handguns it's going to be in a news story about some shooting or robbery. So it's no wonder a lot of Canadians think that handguns are illegal for ANYONE to own.

Oddly enough it gets worse. A good friend of mine is from Jolly Ol' Britain. And over the past years he's had an aunt and cousins and a good friend's son visit from over there. Of course they almost don't have ANY handguns there any more (muzzle loading handguns are OK). So a highlight of these folks' trips was when we took them to the range.

So we're all doing our part for educating the world community.... :D
