I swore off 1911s years ago. Was sick of the reliability issues. Then I consolidated my handgun calibers down to 9mm and 357.

This year I found myself getting bored with plastic striker fired. I wanted something different. So I got a Dan Wesson Valor V-Bob in 9mm. This thing has been dead nuts reliable and shoots like a laser beam. It even fooled others into thinking I was a good shot. Liked it so much I bought a DW Guardian, same gun, just aluminum frame for carry. Dan Wesson turned me around on my avoidance of 1911s that I got a Sig 10mm. While fine, was a step backwards from DW, so enter the DW Specialist in 10mm...they breed like rabbits.

Well this summer I joined a club. Lots of dynamic shooting, good times. I was shooting well but was getting limited by capacity. I tried going back to Glock, my VP9 which are great, but not on same level as my DWs.

Enter the Wilson Combat Experior Commander Double Stack. Was set on the EDC-X9, but did some research and this kept popping up. Seems while everyone was hyped on the EDC-X9, Wilson put the Experior out. Same X9 frame, but traditional 1911 upper with internal extractor. 15 or 18 round mags.

Took delivery earlier this week and got to shoot it today for the first time. I have never shot a Wilson before.

WOW.

3 mags of 124 gr NATO to break in. Not one hiccup. I brought more, but it was shooting flawlessly. It shot exactly where I aimed. The sights were dead on. Very conducive to both eyes open shooting.

So now let's see what it will handle. Some of you are going to cringe.
Steel case ammo. Not just any steel cased ammo, but Winchester Forged junk ammo. Yes, I put the most horrible 9mm ammo I have into a Wilson Combat. It ran like a top. I was able to shoot fast and accurately. I have plenty of ½ size silhouette AR500 with various gongs. I was flying through them.

The only malfunction in the 300ish rounds today was purposely induced. Extreme limp wristing. I mean loose wrist, thumb on back strap and finger to pull trigger, basically firing with a 2 finger grip. With the Winchester Forged. This caused a FTRB. Slight tap on back of slide and GTG. This only happened once. The 2 Glocks we were shooting failed everytime we tried this. Not bashing Glock, I have 5 of them.

I am now looking at the EDC X9s. Similar gun but G26 sized. This is turning into a sickness.

The Experior line seems to be overlooked for the EDC-X9. I am not a reveiwer, so if there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Very nice!

Love my X9, prefer the XTac frame and slide patterning over the experior and don't find any issue with the external extractor on my X9.

Apart from that they are the same and you'll continue to love yours I'm sure. 1911 quality trigger and boring Glock (or Sig or whatever you want) reliability.

My main complaint on mine is that I have a railed model and Vedder doesn't make a holster for it yet.

I have had good luck with reliability with all my 1911s, SAs, S&Ws, Colts, Rugers, Kimbers, a Sig, and a Para Ord. They all functioned perfect except the UCII would get early slide lock back, with rounds in the mag. Glad you finally found some that work for you!!

For what it's worth I got my X9 in February and had a couple FTRTB the first range trip when it got a bit dirty and the slide was tight.

2500+ this summer and it hasn't had a hiccup since. Nearly all my handloads, it's been carried quite a bit and I'll say if you put it in kydex don't be shocked if you see holster wear pretty quick, the Armor Tuff finish isn't all that tough from what I've seen.

Then again, Wilson slide refinish isn't terribly expensive and it'll give me an excuse to try a new color in a few years when I get around to it.

Yes. Been looking for a leather holster with TLR-7, but everything is custom order and months out.

I posted an incident in Collectors Arms in the rate transaction forums. I really want the black over gray color scheme.

First time with a Wilson Combat, the EDC X9s is really calling me. I literally have it in my wedding vows 2 gun purchases a month. I technically paid for this in November....

Must be nice! I did find that with a Olight Mini 2 on the Wilson it fits fine in my Vedder for a Glock 19 with the same light, perhaps you can find something similar. It would certainly fit better in a Sig 229 holster with the same light, but I don't have one of those.

Nice looking gun and a good write up.

Wilson is on a roll with getting me to want to go back to two types of pistols I thought I’d cast off permanently. First the Beretta, and now because of your post the 1911.

Last couple outings with higher end guns have less than stellar. So to me it was taking a chance. Not a knock towards the company at all.

Had my Barrett Rec 10 topped with Vortex Razor hd 1-6 both gun and scope failed requiring trip back to their respective factories.

And just coming off a Staccato that I thought would be the end all be all. Staccato was huge let down, had it less than a month.

Having a good range day without any kind of catastrophic failures was a breath of fresh air.
Also got to re-establish faith in the Rec-10.

Wilson does have a reputation for superior, exemplary, CS.

My dad got a CQB a while back and was just starting to get into reloading to boot. I was amazed at the quick and detailed replies his numerous questions about loads, weights, lengths, powder, etc received.

I've also read a few accounts on 1911 forum about WC replacing/refurbishing shotout WC competition guns for little/no cost. Which is pretty cool.

I have 8 Wilson Combat mags, always work, no failures. One of them is so old it has a ball bearing in the follower.
