Yesterday, I took my girlfriend shooting. I took a couple of my fullsize handguns with us. This was only 2nd time she has shot a handgun. My girlfriend isn't really into guns, and owns none. But, she doesn't mind going to shoot very occasionally. I have tried to get her to go a few other times, but she wasn't really that interested to go as often as I would like her too.

Well, last weekend when I went to a gun store, she came with me. She saw someone she knew, and that person started sending her messenger messages about guns. Her friend assumed she was into shooting. So, that spurred my girlfriend to go with me again.

Yesterday, I took the Glock 34 and the Beretta M9A3. My girlfriend shot the M9A3 last time, and liked it best. So, I thought I would take it again...

We both shoot the Beretta better (my groups are a little tighter with the Beretta). And, she really liked the Beretta. She did fantastic.

It's funny... She is from Russia. She told me when she was in college at music school in the early 1990s (she is a piano teacher) - a military soldier came and taught all the students how to shoot an AK. She also had to learn how to clean it and disassemble/reassemble it.

She told me the soldier always liked coming to teach the young college girls. She was in an all girls class, and they all had to learn how to do this. She was in her early 20s at that point, and had not fired a gun again until she met me.

I have a lot of different guns. And, the Beretta is too heavy for me to carry with my back problems. But, it IS my favorite to shoot out of all my handguns. My M9A3 is one from that 1 batch they made in MD before they stopped production and moved to TN.

Anyway, fun time yesterday. Here is a target she shot at 25 feet with the M9A3 (15 rounds thru 1 mag). Pretty damn good...

Great fun, great shooting!

Haven’t been shooting with my wife since the kids were born but she’s a good shot with an auto loader (she basically stole my sig 228) and great with a wheel gun. Dangerous to deer with a rifle in hand too.

Thanks for sharing, we really should get a sitter and hit the range some weekend soon

If she cooks as well as she shoots, you've got a real gem there!

Sho nuff. She is a great cook.

The hardest part is that she lives 3 hours away from me. I've been making the drive for almost 5 years now. I am still hoping she will move here soon. But starting over with zero students in a new city is tough, I understand. And, I am just a few years from retiring, so I cannot move.

My wife was raised there, too, first the USSR, and then the resulting RF. She never got into guns, either, and won't shoot anything bigger (yet) than a .22/.25 auto. She's petite, with pencils for wrists, and found even my Rough Rider revolver too heavy, and some mild .380 and .38 loads too snappy.

She also was made in high school to shoot a Kalashnikov during a survival class, but not to break it down as she recalls. From what she describes, it was likely loaded with rubber or wax bullets, as it was fired in a high school gymnasium. :what: :D

She has recently expressed an interest in getting a carry license, mostly to keep her out of trouble if she keeps a gun in her car. Since her last range trip, I've acquired another .38 revolver and some flyweight ammunition that, together, may give her another option.

Thanks for sharing.

As much as folks decry a .22 for defense (I’m of the opinion that a .22 in the hand is better than a .38 (or.380, 9mm, etc) at home because she’s uncomfortable shooting it), maybe an LCP II Lite Rack or something similar might be a carry option for her? She’ll appreciate the size and weight and shouldn’t be intimidated by the guns bark and bite.

Just a thought…

For the OP, my wife knew I was into Firearms long before we met so she indulges my hobby but doesn’t partake in shooting at all :(. Nice that you’re able to get her to go once in a while.

Stay safe.

Why I , as an Intelligence Warrant Officer , NEVER wanted to fight the Russians ! #1 we have a lot in common culturally if one digs deep enough to discover it. #2 While the US centers on diversity and libertine philosophy Russia teaches every student how to defend the Motherland with it's military weapons !

Trust me, that's been on my radar all summer, and the next one I see locally for sale will probably end up in my pocket. In fact, I tried to buy one a couple of months ago, but lost track of the store employee that had showed it to me and I had a friend with me I didn't want to keep waiting. I had previously seen one in my local BPS, but it was gone when I went back (and I ended up with the MAX that was there in its place!)

She actually likes the Taurus PT22 that she has shot, and the identical PT25 is what she has access to when I'm not at home. That Lite-Rack is one slick-feeling little gun. I bet it's a hoot to shoot.

A S&W Model 43 Airweight Kit Gun .22LR is perfect for her. And you will have fun with it too!

^^ I probably would at that. One of her friends moved out of country recently and had to ditch a BodyGuard .38CT she had bought but never fired, and I obligingly took off her hands. Maybe I'll see if this size is something she'd carry around or, at least, keep handy in her vehicle.
