I finally bought a Sig Sauer 556 today! Got the NY version, which means no flash hider and an A2 stock. I have to say that I have fallen in love allready!
I do have two pet peeves already. One is that the stock flip-up sights are awful. The Front post is a big ol' square that covers a 1' wide target at fifty yards. The back sight, while not all together bad, is still not great.
Two, a trigger guard made for german sausage fingers pushes the mag release about 1/3 inch too far to tap quickly. In order to hit it with my mediumish hands, I either have to rotate my hand forward, or use my middle finger.
Three, the safety is a little too high, but since I have to adjust my grip to manipulate pistol safeties, it doesn't bother me that much.
Recoil is less than an AR, with negligable muzzle flip, even with no brake. It is a little forward heavy, which i like b/c it seems to hang on target better. The grip has a storage compartment. The trigger is almost like a weird two-stage, but the more i shoot it, the more i like it.
I did not shoot for accuracy today, but I put about 40 rounds into a target to get a feel for the Sig. Overall it is very good, but I will be modifying it to amend some problems.
