Top shot show on History

I'm laughing a bit at the shooters bringing up their military background so much in the show, implying that gives them a clear edge over the civilian shooters, etc. I guess they don't get out much. The amount of shooting any soldier, sailor, or Marine, etc, gets is quite dependent on what their job is, or how much they shoot on their own time, much like any civilian might be active as a shooter on his own dime. I can name about a hundred civilian shooters that have set records, shoot in competition, and regularly beat any number of the military's top shooters. While the military dominates most of the high power, formal rifle shooting at Camp Perry, etc, they are generally NOT the top combat competition or speed shooters. So, it is literally a crap shoot as to who would do better in a Top Shot competition, especially since competitors are chosen for diversity or personality over raw shooting experience or skill. It seems they all have some shooting skills, but how handsome, pretty, or interesting they are personality-wise plays into the producer's choices for contestants. Brag if you want to because you're military, police, etc, but I don't think it means much.

Yeah, I agree. My best friend is career Marine Corps and I've outshot him every time we've ever went to the range. And I'm not setting myself up as a great shot either. I do okay but among my friends who shoot I'm pretty much right in the middle.

No actual out-of-pocket costs, just a sacrifice of vacation time and time away from one's family.
The other way of looking at it is a vacation away from the family and kids where you get to experience different shooting contest, meet a bunch of other shooters, share stores, shoot someone else's guns and ammo, have a chance at $1K and have a bunch of stores to tell back home when the season airs

Im so glad its the season finale, im pretty burned out of these contestants. The only one i respect anymore is Joe (think thats his name) and even that is minimal.

I am not a fan of Jay and Jamie seemed like a pretty cool and level headed guy but how they were screwed with was just pathetic

I think they should lay off the military applicants after this sorry display

Yup as far as I am concerned those guys are sorry representations of our service men and women. George especially is a giant D-bag. And the rest are just sorry pathetic losers who follow along because they have no spine.

"Oh I always vote based on performance" What a sorry sac of excrement.

This season has become a real joke. I didn't know everyone in the military was a sharpshooter? Give me a break. Most of these contestants are just morons.:uhoh:

I am pretty sure Colby Donaldson is from Texas. He gets his whole method of commenting on the competitions from Jeff Probst, who is the host of Survivor.

Pretty sure that's the accent he's always had, though it's obvious he's had acting/voice coach lessons since Survivor.

Hunter Ellis and others have done the same.

Why does anyone CARE, that is my question? It's just another bs TV show, after all, so why give it the time of day?

We care because we want to portray shooting sports and gun ownership on a positive light, so I can convince my fellow liberals that shooting and gun ownership is a liberal sport with good sportsmanship with warm and fuzzy feelings, etc ...

This season of top shot looks like the Jersey Shore.

Spoiler Alert

This is speculative, but

I'm fairly positive Chris Reed wins Top Shot. Iain Harrison wrote that he watched the episode where Jamie was eliminated with the Season 2 winner in a hotel room near Los Angeles. Chris wrote that he was in California at about the same time but later pulled the message.

I'm not sure about that. Jaime was just eliminated (on TV) a week ago, and they finished filming (from what I understand from this thread) in the summer. There could be any number of reasons to be in California at that time, and, it's a huge state.

Flopsweat,

He's from Texas. His accent was stronger on Survivor and he's had the edges knocked off for his entertainment career.

That accent finds it's way into the Utah/Colorado region as well. It's not Southern, it's a general Western/South-Western accent. I've identified the accent in my own speech and endeavor to control it, under stress or excitement it sometimes slips out.

I'm not sure - a generic "Southern" accent I guess. And every once in a while he drops into a more “neutral” slightly Midwestern accent.
So are you objecting to his South-Western accent or the more neutral speech pattern he is affecting to be more easily understood?

I would have guessed his origins, without looking it up, as AZ, CO or NM

He's from Texas, graduate of my Alma Mater Texas Tech.........It's not hard to pick out the accent if you're from TEXAS....AND........it is dang near impossible to leave Lubbock, Texas without takin a little twang with ya! haha

I had a couple episodes on DVR and caught up this weekend while cleaning some guns. Was something to kinda watch then pay close attention with the competition parts. George - is an :cuss: :cuss:. The only guy I was kinda liking was Jamie (the navy swimmer). The bearded guy, Ashley I think his name was, has another real :cuss::cuss:. Not interested in the finale, took it off the record list. I didn't watch last season but thought it looked good. Not so much - I can find lots of other better things to do.
