Tough Left Hand Bolt...Rem 700 vs Savage 110

I'm looking for TOUGH lefthanded bolt for my own personal SHTF rifle. I want a bolt that can take the beatings of several weekend APPLESEED shoots and keep on going. I'm gong to deck it out with a reciever (peep) sight a hooded front. This is not a CQB carbine! I want a 300-500 yarder that keeps on going.

I've narroewed it down to these two fine American companies. Now, here's what I'm looking for...

1)MIL SPEC TUFF! Or at least near to it as possible. I'm talking SS barrel and polymer stocks.

2)NO SCOPES!

3)30 CAL! Something to reach out and still have punch when it gets there.

4)AWB PROOF! I'm BEHIND ENEMY LINES here in IL! I need a "greyman" MBR to go with my levers.

5)LEFTHANDED is LUCK! Soory, I just can't "relearn" to shoot as a "normal" person after 37 years.

Thanks for any imput on the two choices or your own!

I have a Savage 110L that I bought in 1968 in .243 Winchester and a left hand Remington 700 Mountain Rifle that I got from their custom shop a few years ago in .280.

Of the two (and I like them both) I would say the Savage is my favorite. I was toying with rebarreling it to .308 but the .243 works just fine on deer.
 
I'm going with a set of LYMAN peep sights, so factory offerings isn't a factor.

I found out that SAVAGE is offering their SCOUT in lefthand for 2007! Glad to see its back. I shot one a few years back and found it to be pretty quick handling. Hate that baseball of a knob that's on the bolt!

Which a truly objective engineer would choose, but I would suspect the Savage...........Essex
 
Neither of these rifles hold a candle in "mil-spec tough" compared to a genuine battle design like a Mauser or Enfield. Zastava makes (or at least at one time made) left handed mirror image Mausers which were imported by Charles Daly and Interarms.
 
Having owned/own several of each in LH I personally prefer the 700's, but then I am not looking for a SHTF rifle and doubt I would pick a bolt for that purpose. I live for today and what I expect tomorrow to be for my guns which is for hunting and enjoyment whether at the range or just plinking. If I wanted a true SHTF I imagine I would pick something along the lines of what the military is using in the same caliber, or an AK for the ruggedness and firepower.
 
"..."relearn" to shoot as a "normal" person..." Eh? You are normal. It's the rest of the world that's backwards. You don't need any adaptors to shoot any battle rifle left handed. They work just fine as is. And anybody who tells you you can't shoot one left is nuts in the head. Had to ask a CF militia plug how I managed to shoot 'expert' with a C1A1 after over hearing him tell his buddy it was impossible.
I'd lean towards the Savage just because of the price difference. Mind you, if the excrement hits the fan, I'm not lugging a bolt action around(although the '03A4 won't be far away). I'll use my M-1 Carbine.
 
The lefty adapter for the K31 has my attention! I tried an internet search, but in the time available did not find anything. I will certainly search longer at a later time.

I seem to be getting some flack for choosing a bolt rifle over a semi. But I guess everyone has opinions and I've heard some good one here. I think of a rifle as somehting in .30cal and to use on targets out too 300-500 yards. At that range. a bolt action is as good as a semi when the shooter is shooting AIMED FIRE at individual targets. Now, if I was in a military action and just throwing alot of lead, then the semi/auto would be the top choice. For up close encounters, I like my shotty.

Now I would just go crazy over a Steyr Scout in a left handed version. I would have my Scout scope on a great set of Williams quick release mounts and put a set of Lyman reciever sights/post on it. And the world would be a much happier place! But since Steyr is oppressing the lefties, I have to look else where or fall in line with "the man" and learn to shoot right handed.

Two suggestions- Savage Scout in .308 (Savage Custom Shop will make you one in left hand). It comes with peep sight. Does everything the Steyr does. And in left hand. I have one with a Leupold Scout Scope and the Leupold QR rings.

Or find a leftover new Winchester 70 with CRF in left hand in 30-06. Controlled round feed is more reliable under the "gun" so to speak....these are around on the online auction sites. You may have to have iron sights installed on this one.

both great guns. I had a lefty Rem 700 VS but didn't like it and sold it.
