I have 2 full sized 1911s, one a Springfield Lightweight Operator, the other a Springfield Mil-Spec. I don't really need to 5" 1911s, so I have been looking at possibly getting rid of one of mine for a compact. I have come across a possible trade that would be my LW Operator for a Kimber Ultra SIS. So, is this a good deal in your eyes?

Would the other guy allow you to try shooting the Kimber? I don't know the value of either gun, but I do know the value of a gun that is reliable, one that I shoot well and enjoy shooting..

Nope, I can't shoot it, it's a long distance trade.

Despite the silly looking SIS on the side, it has Series 1 innards, IMO, I'd trade.

Oh heck yeah, I'd make that trade. The SIS is one SLICK CCW pistol.

    You know what you have.
You don't know what you would get.
There's gotta be a reason he's trading "down".
    Don't touch it.

The SIS is a great gun. You would be getting the better end of the deal in my opinion.

I say no trade. Like previous poster said, "why is he trading down?", even though I, personally, don't feel a Springer is less of a gun than Kimber. In cost it is, not quality. Keep your Springer.

Tough call, the SIS slide serrations are supposed to be harder to use than the original JMB design. Regards, Richard:)

    Keep the Springer.

Everyone likes to talk about how great the new SIS is, but no one has any experience with the thing.

My rule is to never, ever trade or sell a reliable weapon. If you want a new one, save up for it.

If you are willing to trade the Springfield because you don't want two 5"ers, then look around first. I'm sure you could get a trade closer to you where you can handle the gun.

I don't think Kimbers are any step-up from the Springfield...except Kimber continues to come out with new; grips (Raptor, Desert Recon), fancy CNC slide machining (SIS), etc. to make your Kimber 1911 more "custom". I have nothing against them, just don't see them as anything exceptional.

There has to be a reason he is willing to give up an SIS for an Operator. I would be leery of a trade like this. If you know the person and trust them, It is a good trade. If not, you may be trading a good firearm for a lemon. A lemon with very funny looking slide serrations.:barf:

I have 2 Kimbers and love them, but that SIS is UUUUUUUUUgly!!!:banghead:

    (Purely Opinion)
