Trade my Glock 36?

If you don't care for the recoil of the 36 don't buy the Glock 23 in 40. Stick with the 9mm either the 19, 26 or 17 all three are great pistols. I prefer the 19 it's a good size, not too small and not too big. In fact the 36 and 19 are just about the same size, so any holsters you might have purchased should fit. Plus ammo is much cheaper.

Yep:

Holsters fit both perfectly. I now have TruGlo TFO's on both and they are the beezneez.

Step up to Glock 30 or down to Glock 26 for me. Both work well. IMO the G36 gives up too much.

I have to agree that I hate the fact that it is the only Glock with a low ammo capacity and does not accept other magazines, is a little snappy, and is the only Glock whose only purpose is in the self defense category.

Seriously? A smaller gun with a smaller grip length has easier to manage recoil?

I got to try that XDS out.
I believe it. Haven't shot one yet, but it seems to have a thicker grip (from front to back) due to the longer .45 cartridge (like a 1911), while still keeping the more ergonomic back strap of the XD design. I can tell just from looking at it that it's going to be a good shooter. I've shot everything out there and the XD is by far the easiest gun for me to shoot accurately. I don't even have to try and the center of a target starts getting punched out rather quickly with no flyers. Still prefer a Glock 26 for concealed carry and a USP .45f for night stand duty, but the XD cannot be beat in terms of how shootable it is. This is just my opinion, but I own and have owned several guns from all manufacturers, so my opinion is 100% unbiased. Oddly enough, I don't even own any XDs anymore. Need to buy another .40 some day.

I did a little xds report with pictures www.operationswift.com

I think the recoil on the xds is pretty manageable but it certainly is subjective.

Yep, recoil is subjective. In my hands, my Glock 36 has less felt recoil than my Taurus 85 UltraLite .38 Snubnose revolver with hard plastic Crimson Trace grip. I tolerate shooting +P in the Taurus, in contrast to I actually like shooting my 36.

I figure that the XDS ought to feel somewhere in between the two, just by looking at specifications. Except, I don't know that personally. Yet.

Shoot 5 rounds out of a S&W x frame 460 or 500, or 6 full power 44 mag rounds from a Scandium N Frame, and then go shoot the 36.

It will feel like a 22 in comparison.

The only thing I dislike about the G36 is the finger bite I get when the new round is loaded from the magazine.

I bought a new Glock 36 earlier this month and I have been having trouble with the recoil of the .45ACP out of such a small gun. Recently I have been debating whether I should trade it for a Glock 19 or 26 (Gen 4's). I love the look of the G36 but it only holds 6+1 and I would really like a 9mm now. I am mad at myself for making such a rash impulse buy. I already have a Ruger SR9c which I love and can shoot very accurately with it. Maybe the G19 suits my needs better. What do you all think?
I am almost the opposite of your situation. I already have a Glock 19. I *love* it. I love it more than my Beretta (which I am starting to like more and more, as I practice more with it, but the Glock is just great.).

I also love the Glock 17. Every 17 I have rented to shoot, I love. I shoot the 17 somehow better than the 19. I can never figure it out.

I have my eyes on the 36. It is on my list of purchases next. I wanted the 36 as the backup gun because it is way easier to conceal. The 6+1 is fine, because I intend it as the backup gun.

However, I also want a larger Glock in .45 so I might go for either the 30 or the 21.

(I had decided I will just go with either 9mm or .45 and not try the .40 - which is mostly making a good balance between capacity and stopping power).

So, I am not you but if I were you, I'd KEEP the 36 for CCW/backup, and then buy a 9mm in either Glock 19 or 17. You still should have two guns (strictly speaking, two in the same caliber) backing each other up but I think a Glock in 9mm and then your 36 should be a great combo.

Can anyone comment on the slide width of the Glock 36? To me, it looks like the slide is the same exact width as any of the 9mm Glocks, but instead of the frame being wider like on the 9mms, the frame is thinner and about the same overall width as the slide.

The reason I'm asking is because the specs given on Glock's website say it is 1.13" wide. The Glock 17/19/26 are 1.18" wide. I find it hard to believe that the significantly thinner grip of the 36 is only .05" thinner than the 9mm Glocks. On my 26, the frame sticks out about 1/16 - 1/8" from the slide on EACH side.

So either the Glock 36 slide is fatter than the 9mm slides, or Glock's published specs are wrong for one of the two.

If you are going to get a 9mm glock, I say go with the glock 26 or glock 34. No sense in getting the 19 because its about the same size as the sr9c. I absolutely love my glock 34 target model. Soo accurate! And the recoil is nothing. I love the feel of the g36 but I've never been lucky enough to shoot one.

What's the slide width on your Glock 26?

My Glock 36 measures 1.0" across the slide and where the frame meets the slide. It gets a little wider at the grip's "palm swell" (1.10") with the max width at the bulged out part of the thumb rests (1.17"). Interesting that it is thicker than Glock's specs, as if 0.04" was something to worry about.

We were recently issued the Glock 36 as a duty weapon. At first I was not that taken with it - but, the more I shoot it, the more I like it. I would put more rounds downrange before making a decision. Why not get both and have options???

I still have my 36, I just got a new holster and it carries even better. I may get the G19 sometime later this year. Thanks THR, I actually really like the G36. It has been growing on me.

I don't have a way of getting a precise measurement, but using a tape measure I'm looking at exactly 1" for my g26 slide. Looks like my suspicions were accurate. Slides are basically the same width, but the g36 grip is thinner. I wonder how the g36 does with long-term reliability. I know the .45acp is a relatively low pressure cartridge, but I can't help but wonder when the other Glock .45s have such beefy slides compared to the g36. I've heard that the g36 is the "problem child" of the Glock family, but I know this is probably just internet rumors being blown out of proportion.

I held a g36 again the other day when I went to pick up my new 26 and to my surprise it felt MUCH better than I had remembered. I am now intrigued by this single-stack .45 and might be putting it on my short list once I get my NC CCP.
