"traditional" 9mm's??

Any of the 3rd gen S&W or model 39 variants would fill your need perfectly. I recommend the 39-2, 908, 3913 or the Lady Smith variant (if you can find one) or any of the previously mentioned SIG's. All will serve you admirably.:D

It amazes me how many people did not bother to read the OP. I suggested the P225 which is .10" short of the 4" requirement but meets the rest so close I had to mention it. The S&W 39 along with its all steel counterpart also fits.

Why are so many people suggesting SAO guns and double stack guns like the Beretta 92, most Sigs, BHP & Taurus 92?

The term preferable must have thrown us off ... care to enlighten us to what it really means?
I stated the Beretta 92 because it is one of the emblematic 9mm semi-autos. As is the BHP. It has high "traditional" value .... along with all the features requested, with one feature he'd "preferably" not have.

Is there a reason that a double stack with a grip almost if not as thin as most single stack guns is not an option?

I am not the OP so I cannot really answer that. He stated:

In search of 9mm with METAL frame, No light rails, DA/SA with decocker, barrel length fro 4" to 5", new or old production, and preferably single stack. Recommendations???

I took preferably single stack to heart. IMHO the 92 certainly does not meet they criteria. The CZ75 is a huge double stack with and extremely long length in the DA of pull compared to single stack 9mms. IMHO it has one of the longest length DA pulls do to the placement and shape of the trigger. One of the biggest draw backs to the CZ is its size.

Sigs like the P228 or P226 are significantly larger than say the single stack P225. The length of pull from the backstrap to the front of the trigger on a P225 is about 7 1/8" while the Sig P226 is 7 5/8" roughly. That 1/2" in terms of trigger length is huge IMHO.

I do not have a 92 in front of me to measure but IIRC it is similar to the double stacked Sigs.

You can argue the that the BHP is a very thin, in the grip, double stack. The BHP is even shorter due to is SA trigger. Measures about 6 3/4" but is SA and has no decocker. IF I read the OP correctly it is disqualified as a result and is less than preferable because it is a double stack 9mm.

I mean seriously someone threw in the HK P7 which is not even close to DA/SA and has not decocker. When someone asked for suggestion why do so many people ignore the details and simply name their favorite gun?

I love my Baby Desert Eagle with the 9mm barrel and my Beretta 92FS. Both are all metal, full frame and shoot great....and have double action and a decocker.

SIG P239, S&W M39-2, or S&W M908S. I own one of each and I would stake my life on any of them. They just keep on going, and going, and going.....

Astra A75; Astra A70; Star B/Super B (5"bbl); Star BM 3.77"; Star BKM-- alloy frame BM.

These Spanish made pistol are well made and reliable. These are all steel (except the BKM), single stack 9mm. The Astra's have safety/decockers. The Star are improved "1911 types". Unfortunately neither Astra nor Star is still in business. Look them up; you wont be sorry if you invest in one.
