I'm selling my XD9 to a friend of mine in california. I've done FFL transfers in the past, just not to the great communist state.

is there anything i need to know before hand that might complicate the process, or is it as simple as shipping to his FFL and letting him sort out the mess?

You could go to the CA DOJ site and make sure it is on the roster

http://certguns.doj.ca.gov

There is also the matter of if his FFL is willing to receive a handgun from a non-FFL. He should verify both these things before proceeding with the purchase.

The worst that could happen is that they ship your gun back and you have to refund the money

Actually, if the KingpinJK is an individual and not an FFL, the FFL in calif -can not- return his gun to him. At least not directly. He would have to ship to an FFL. Hence, King would be out the purchase price, return shipping fees, and the local transfer fee.

The upside is that for the shipment -to- Calif, King doesn't have to register and get a shipment number thingie. That bovine scat is reserved only for FFL's (which always struck me a real bright)

Oh, and when you are checking that roster, it has to be the EXACT gun that is on the roster ... not one "just like it", the EXACT model. Example ... Colt Python in Stainless Steel ... on the list, pass friend! Colt Python in blue ... evil unsafe gun, not on the list, go directly to jail, do not collect $200.

well, i sent an email to springfield to see if the XD9-V10 is on that list. all the XDs are listed by model number and not much other data.
