Transpo for my guns - NY --> NV and back

I'm attending a confab later on this year in Nevada. Bunch of gun enthusiasts, and doing a (safe!) show-and-tell and group range trips in which we shoot our own stuff and each other's is a huge part of each day's festivities.
Now, here is my issue: I live in New York State. It is my understanding that JFK and LAG, even Newark are kinda risky for someone to "check" a firearm, especially handguns - and I'm thinking of bringing some.
Rather than take any chances with the law (and I hate checking bags anyway), I'd like to have a local FFL send my firearms to a Nevada FFL (Preferably Reno area), and vice-versa.
Is that sort of arrangement possible?

Shipping to a NV FFL won't work because an FFL an only transfer a handgun to a resident of the state where they are located, so you couldn't get your guns once you get to your destination.

You have two options to get your guns to NV if you are flying--check them or ship them to yourself.

Checking them in your luggage is probably the simplest option. I doubt you would have problems because you have a NYS pitol permit (I know it doesn't qualify for carry in NYC); most of the problems seem to be people who aren't NY residents.

The other option is to ship them to yourself at your destination. UPS will allow you to do this, but it will be expensive because they have to go via next-day shipping. If there is someone that you trust that could recieve them for you, that would be a viable option. Make sure they know not to open the package, and you keep the key.

I have flown multiple times over the past 6 years out of Newark and JFK with handguns and have no problems.
