transporting guns to the range....on a motorcycle?(NC)

i know i saw a thread on this but cannot find it and if you know the one im talking about please post a link, it was within the last two months in the legal forum but i could not find it.

so i have the case that came with my 1911, is it alright to carry an empty pistol and mags in this case (padlocked) and my ammo in a different zipper pocket of my backpack, (i have no saddlebags).....
wanted to see what you guys can turn up since it seems like this could be considered concealed carry and i dont want a trip to the courthouse anytime soon if i have to ride through a road check...
 
this might belong in legal but i just got done reading the very similar thread below and decided to start one about bikes instead of hijacking his
 
Click on this link to the NRA ILA Gun Laws information. Select your state and read the rules on transporting. I don't believe any state prohibits transportation to and from a shooting range of an unloaded pistol in a container not readily accessible to the driver or passenger.
 
In SC it has to be in a attached compartment/container "with an integral fastener", a saddlebag. On your person is a no no.
 
anyone open carry on a motorcycle? would it be legal to OC with full mags on the way to the range and just have the mags and ammo in my backpack?
