I will be traveling very soon to Panama City and Pensacola.
Just wondering if there were any recommendations on gun shops and/or reloading supply stores I should check out anywhere between Montgomery and Panama City, the Pensacola area, or maybe in the Birmingham area on my way back?

If you pass through Navarre, there’s a barbecue joint on the mainland side of the bay that used to be incredible. Haven’t been in a few years, but I would gladly try it again.

I believe Navarre is on the route I planned from Panama City to Pensacola.Do you remember the name?

Get yourself an app called GasBuddy. It is on iOS and Android. It uses user inputted data to report gas prices, and with a recent update, if a station has gas available. It has saved me a lot of money.

As far as gun shops to visit, every gun store I have gone into between Birmingham and Pensacola has firearms in stock. Ammo prices are still high and if you ask for reloading components, you might get some snide laughs.

Thanks for the replies. Bass Pro in Prattville had some 500 rd bulk boxes of Browning .223 for $300. No powder or primers yet.

If you're going to Florida any time soon, I'd worry more about finding fuel...
No problem on fuel in north Florida or Alabama or Georgia; filled up 2 days ago in Thomasville at $2.59

There are some gun clubs in that area - Santa Rosa in Pace, Southern Tactical (now called Element) in Holt; Ravenwood in Dothan area has great sporting clays

HUGE relief. Wife got the whole family a big house rented down there for a couple weeks from now.

Was really worried about driving down, then not having the fuel to get back out.

No problems anywhere in Al or Panama city. Of course it is 40c higher in Panama City Beach.
Gas is ALWAYS higher in the tourist areas. You should see the one or two gas stations on the way to the rental car return agencies at Orlando Airport. When gas was $2/gallon, they were $6

Same in Leeds $289. The ammo is coming in and starting to collect on the shelves. Not anywhere near cheap. Still not what I would call super high at $0.59 per round for brass fmj. Think we might be turning the corner on this once the Remington production gets up to speed and people start living their lives again this summer.

If Your goal is finding regular priced stash of ammo or supplies, can't think of any. However if you have time and don't mind going an hour out of your way, drive to the CMP in Anniston. It's an interesting and cool experience. Call ahead and check hours/covid rules.

Warning!

Your net liquid worth may become negative after one trip to the CMP Store. You may be heavily indebted to your credit card company for years. But you will have a lot of neat stuff!

Just a few of the rifles I picked up at CMP.

Not a CMP Redfield 3200. Rifle shoots great.

In March I attended the CMP Spring Games,

and they had bayonets in the Talladega Clubhouse store. Like I needed more bayonets.

No pics of the bayonets, they are all greasy and pointy.

CMP store in Anniston is closed for the time being. So he is safe, on this trip. Limited inventory and hours in Talladega may be a saving grace as well.

Nevermind the fact that CMP is a fairly distant trip north of I-10; by about a day.

Kaufman’s Guns, Daleville AL.
Stopped here, they had a great selection of firearms and accessories, had a lot of 300AC, Russian ammo, and a few magnum pistol calibers. I couldn't bring myself to pay $64/box for the 30-06 they had.

I also stopped at a few Bass Pro and Academy along the way. Bass Pro in Montgomery had plenty of Win target 5.56 150rd for a$99. They don't appear to be gouging on what they have.
Academy is a different story. Decatur Al store had some ammo, all of it way over priced. Federal 300wm and .308 for $60/box.
Since I am decently stocked, I passed on those and also couldn't bring myself to pay $45 a box for winchester target .32 Acp, but they had quite a bit.
