Trigger Pull on an EDC?

One other point. I didn't buy this pistol for carry, and it already had the custom trigger work done. But like I said the entire trigger mechanism is not OEM. I'm going to have a smith look at it next week and see if it's easy to bump back up. But I don't want to lose the smoothness and consistancy. This trigger is as good as many high end 1911's. If I can get it up to 4- 4.5 pounds I suspect I'll be fine. I don't have any other non OEM parts in the action except the guide rod, which I don't consider an issue.

As far as carrying a firearm with reloads, I don't do it, but then again I don't reload. Last week I had two squibs on the range with factory Fiocchi ammo. I usually shot CCI blazer brass, which have been 100% thru thousands of rounds.

Wasn't meaning to criticize, burk. Just wanted to say what criteria are first and foremost in my mind regarding carry. Having said stock and factory, I hasten to say that these criteria may not be sufficiently limiting.

I don't feel comfortable carrying my wondrous Walther PPQ. While its stock trigger weight is supposedly the same as my Gen4 Glock 19, my PPQ offers not a hint that the break is coming. Moreover, a blink of the eye seems all that's needed to fire from the miniscule reset. Fun for the range and fine for home defense, for sure, but I've just ordered a Walther P99 AS to get a stock trigger whose added SIG-like DA resistance and decocker will give me some wiggle room as my finger goes inside the trigger guard.

Similarly, I don't carry factory ball ammo, only factory hollow points. What I seek is just to stop, not to kill, the BG(s) threatening my life or a family member's. FMJ risks over-penetration that could harm innocent bystanders, and, what with entry AND exit wounds, it ups the chances of an unwanted homicide...

Oh, the Blazer Brass is for practice. I carry with 230 gr. Federal HST's.

As far as the feeling the trigger break coming. I have no problem with that. As light as it breaks, you know it's breaking. But it has no grit, no sloppiness, no vagueness, it's a precision piece. The reset is solid, but again there is no doubt. You'd have to feel it to get it, any of my friends who have shot it have been amazed.

Walther P99AS? They have the most amazing trigger of any poly pistol I've ever tried. True, you do have the decocker for a heavy DA first rd option but after that the reset is almost nothing and the SA trigger is really light, mine was about 3 lbs stock. If you are looking for a heavier trigger than your PPQ I don't know if the P99 AS is it.

I'd still own mine except it was in 40 cal and it was really snappy, high bore axis and lighter than a Glock. I kinda miss that one though. Might be better in a 9mm version.

Hey Burk - I just researched your Lightening Strike trigger and in all of their advertising they claim that it does NOT alter the factory trigger pull weight, it just shortens the length of pull (pre-travel I presume). Maybe somebody swapped some other parts on you? Springs and connector maybe?

Like I said before, double check that striker spring, that part really needs to be full power in a SD pistol. Good luck.

I don't mind a light SA pull (I carried a cocked-and-locked 1911 in Vietnam), just want the option of having it occur after a heavy DA pull (rather than after the sweep of safety). I think the P99AS DA is about 11 lbs, rather like my P22x SIGs.

Trigger pull on my carry guns are stock. If the factory trigger pull wasn't satisfactory for self defense then I would have chosen another gun, which had to be done a few times before making a final decision.

DA pull on my P99AS is 8-8.5 pounds. Single action (AS deactivated, the short single action) measures at 4 pounds. By comparison my Para GI Expert is 6.5 and Ruger SR9c was 5.5. All fine carry guns.

Walther specs the AS P99's DA at 11lbs and its SA and AS at 5lbs. Wonder why the discrepancy...

I don't think there is a single firearm manufacture whose published material matches what I have tested for trigger weights. Even Glocks I have handled haven't always had their famous 5.5 pound stock trigger. I am glad my Walther is different from the spec sheet on the website. 4SA and 8DA feels just about perfect to me and well balanced. A not too light SA and not too heavy DA.
