"For those not familiar with the Trijicon RMR, it's a small "red dot" optic for your handgun, and/or other applications that require compactness and lightweight solutions. The dual illuminated model does not require batteries to operate since it relies upon Trijicon's fiber optic lighting source for daytime and a tritium source for night time; a feature I find absolutely necessary in regards to optics on defensive handguns. It's available in a 4 MOA to 8 MOA dot, the latter being superior for handguns. The model I tested was a 8 MOA dot, which I found to be fast in acquisition and sufficient for repeatable and accurate shot placement."

IMO, this is a great concept.

I think you may find a majority of members here afraid of change, though

The one in the pic is the battery operated one, not the dual illuminated model.

I guess it implies that it's the dual illuminated model, but I was more or less talking about it's availability compared to the LED models.

Where did you get the mount for it?

I've the tritium/fiber RMR on my FNP-45 Tactical and it rocks. Like it enough I want to get one for my favorite 1911 but have had no luck finding a mount for it that works like the Optima/J-Point or Burris Fastfire replacing the rear sight. A Novak cut in my case.

The Burris FastFire II has mounts that use the existing rear sight cut so you don't have to mill. Reflex sights are an interesting option.

The only one I can think of is that the sight will sit lower.

The major downside is you can't restore the original configuration should you wish to sell the gun and keep the sight (big issue IMHO as the RMR costs 50-100% of the price of common SD handguns).

I do wish more pistols would come from the factory milled for it, like my FNP 45 "Tactical" did.

Anyone who doubts this system need only wait until they get old enough to have trouble focusing on the front sight, then benefits become painfully obvious!

I like RDS on milled slides. They work well and there is a reason Suarez latched on to this after it had been around for some time.
