True Love, or, My new Swede

I brought home my new (if 1942 is new) M38 today. What a sweet little rifle. Points like a shotgun. Shoulder it with eyes closed, open them, there's a sight picture. Even smells good.

Can't wait to shoot it. Got some S&B soft points with the gun, and have some PMC on the way. Now I need some stripper clips.

I accuired a Carl Gustav, 1920, that was sporterized when i bought it.
It is a very accurate rifle. Barrel has been shortened to 22" and has recessed crown, and a 2.5X weaver scope.
With Yugo ammo got a 1" 3 shot group a 100yrds last time out t the range.

I have two M 96 Swedes. One made in 1915 and one made in 1922. The 1922 rifle is the most accurate rifle I own. I haven't had a chance to shoot the 1915 gun yet. I've got plenty of strippers, about 80, but I'm always low on ammo. I tend to shoot it up pretty quickly after I buy it.

I'm looking for a nice short rifle or M-38 carbine. They've pretty much dried up and I need to find someone who's selling his.

Nice M38....mine is a 1942 as well...picked it up from a batch of five or six at a country gun show a few years ago. Knew nothing about Swedes or the cartridge, but it looked like a real nice military rifle. I've since learned a lot about them, and my Husky was a real find for just $120. The stock was crappy, and not matching, so I painted it in Teutonic Forest colors of black, moss and umber, with leaf and grass stencilling. Have since learned that that's a 'bubba', and will get me severely lectured in some quarters, but hey, its MY gun!
Here's a pic, I hope. The Swede is the one on top...the others are a 'bubba'd and rescued' Brazilian .30-06 Czech conversion, and a stainless T/C muzzle loader. These were my first attempts at camo painting a dingy stock...I've since improved a bit!

My M96 1903 dated swede is the best shooting gun I own, sitting on about 200 rds of swede ammo, seems to shoot best.

Jub: if you really want to see how well that Swede shoots, get yourself some Mojo sights...peeps front and rear that swap for the originals, and are NOT bubba-ing, but let you shoot darn near as well as Wild's fancy M41 swedish queen for just small bux. Mine is so equipped, if you look closely. Recommended! Mojosights.com will get you there. Here's a slightly Bubba'd (or is it Bjubba'd) 1918. The buttstock was expertly cut down 1/2" and I didn't even notice it until I had it standing up next to the other.
The metal plate says that it belonged to a Einar Lindquist, probably his target rifle as the trigger has been honed incredibly crisp and light.

The second is of the first target I shot with this rifle using store bough remington corelokt loads. The first shot went of to the left as I hamhandedly squeazed the trigger back not expecting the second stage to break so light. The next 4 went into a neat little group. Not too bad for a nearly 90 year old rifle, and a target I could barely see with my myopic eyesight.

Wild: 300 yards? At my age, I can't SEE 300 yards! ...and I DID say 'almost', diddle I? My Husky will reliably keep the 160 Hornady RN, that's all I shoot in it, inside 2 ins at the magic hunnert...and that's as well as I can see to shoot with any irons. The Mojo is at its best as a quick snap-shot sight, not as a precision needle-threader. Lots better than the vee sight that comes on the rifle, but of course not at all the equal of a 'scope.

Never had too much trouble with the swede issue sights...although to my aging eyes, the micrometer on my Jungly is the poop!
