Howdy all, In the wake of my father's passing last year, i have begun going through his gun collection and sort things into "keep" and "Sell" sets.

well, one of the rifles going on the "Sell pile" is a very nice 90's production Browning that I, so far, can't find enough definitive information to make a proper educated guess as to value. because any money from the sale would go to my mother not me, I don't want to under- or over- value it when I go to sell it. what i KNOW about it are the following.
  • it's Marked "Browning A-Bolt 22 Caliber .22LR only"
  • the action is definitely scaled to .22LR it's not long enough even for .22 Hornet
  • based on stock style and finish, the metal finish, and the pictures i can find online, it might be a Medalion grade model
  • believe that dad bought it sometime between 1990 and 1997 (most likely '95-97 but can't be sure)
other info not directly related to figuring out the model,
the only reason dad bought this rifle in the first place was that when he came across it, even though it was of a higher finish grade, it was priced in line with the standard blued/walnut Ruger 77/22 next to it on the rack and he couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a "Pretty" gun without a price hike.

the couple of places I've looked for a valuation so far don't seem to show an A-bolt style rifle in .22LR, all of the "Micro A-Bolts" listed are in centerfire.

Not looking for a value here, just some guidance as to what information, model name, or terms i should be using to narrow my search for one.

thank you for your time

Is it a lot like this one?

Is it a lot like this one?

someone on a local NC gun forum sent me the same link about 30 mins ago (he beat ya by all of 11 minutes), so great minds think alike?

yep, the only differences between the one in the article and the one in my safe is that mine does not have Iron Sights, and to me at least looks to have a slightly heavier barrel profile. but it's the same metal finish and stock styling, rosewood accents, and finish

I'm assuming from the lack of a Gold-filled "Gold Medallion" roll mark that both are a version of the Grade I

Update,

So I WON'T be selling this rifle👍
Talked to mom a few days after posting this and she says she can't bring herself to sell any of dad's collection
It all either has meaning to me, or dad invested a lot of time and effort in them in various ways.

So the Browning gets to stay.

Gosh! I just love a happy ending!
You don’t often get them these days.

My dad would be of the same ilk. Never paying for more than standard, but pleased with a small upgrade like that.

I believe some of this rubbed off on me. But I prefer the term “classic”, to “standard.”😅

I hope you enjoy them for a good long time, Detritus.

The A-Bolt was around in the mid- ‘80s as the local shop I worked in had 4 in stock. $450 or thereabouts at the time when I was gifted a Ruger 77/22 by dad. Those Browning’s were beautiful. That might have been 1985, and the Ruger sat alongside the A-Bolts on the shelf.
