Tuarus PT-24/7 9mm for CCW/IDPA duty.

I have been hunting around for a new hangdun purchase and I hate to say it but the new Taurus Pro seems to fit my criteria more than any other gun I've found. It's very slim, DA/SA, apaprantly accurate, good sights, good grip, polymer frame, 9mm, has a manual safety, and won't break the bank. I now a lot of people are down on Taurus and I personally bought a pt-22 I should just throw in a lake. BUT I also have a Taurus 85 that is reliable, very well made, and VERY accurate. I now there are reports of problems with the .45 but I'm talking about the 9mm and I would love to get some opinons on the 9mm Pro.

NO "get a glock" homers please. I don't like the grip, trigger, or lack of a manual safety of the Glock. I don't want a Glock, I don't, I don't, I don't. Thank You.
 
Taurus 24/7 Pro or Smith&Wesson M&P ...

I'm personally torn between the two myself!

24/7 is available in 9/40/45, while the M&P is available in 9/357sig/40...

Both bit my hand NICELY... and have Stainless slides..

Capacity is the same..

Both have lifetime warranty.

Both have good sights (Novak on the M&P, Heinie on the 24/7)

Both have rails.

24/7 has the SA/DA trigger that is mostly SA, but reverts to double action in the event of a failure to fire, M&P has DAO.

24/7 has an external safety (1911 style). M&P has no external safety.

M&P has ambidexterous slide release, 24/7 has one sided slide release.

24/7 Has a bi-tone look about it, where the M&P has Melonite coated stainless slide, making it black.
 
After only 50 rounds through my 24/7 Pro (in .40), I'm thoroughly glad I bought it. The trigger needs to set in a little, and I need to get accustomed to the "snappy-ness" of the recoil, but I found that the gun is definitely more accurate than I am with it. As soon as I find a good IWB holster than doesn't cost an arm, I'll be all set.

Be advised, though, that there are plenty of reports of magazine issues involving the .45 version of the 24/7. Also be advised that people have said that if you hold the trigger back a smidge while setting the safety on the 24/7, the gun will still fire (with the safety "on"). This is true on mine, also. It seems to be inherent in the design that by holding the trigger back, you've brought some component back past the point where the safety locks it up.

Still and all, though, if you do get one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
 
The problems with the 45 apparently were due to a weak spring in a batch of magazines that were shipped.

I took a dig into the "names" of persons who are posting all the complaints on the 24/7 pro .45 online - funny, there were only about 10 of them posting on literally every forum they could get their hands on...

It's amazing though how a sidearm that has little online press can be thrashed by a group of people spewing forth negativity about it everywhere that someone might look for something positive to say.

I have one of the newest reworks of the PT-111 Pro with the DA/SA trigger, which is basically a 24/7 Pro 9mm in a smaller package, and I LOVE it, hence my interest in the 24/7... Has the same grip, same sights, same break down... Shoots extremely well for a pistol with only a 3.25" barrell!

Here's the target that I fired my first 10 rounds into when I first bought it.. 7 yards, 1 shot per second. Right out of the box, no breaking down/oiling... Just right out of the box..

I've since put 300 rounds through it - No problems AT ALL..

I'll admit though, the mags were a bear to load to 12 rounds the first 200 rounds!!!!

Taurus is making a great pistol these days! Just hard for me to make the decision on the 24/7 Pro or the M&P.

I guess I was assuming the trigger on the 24/7 is a DA/SA meaning the tigger is a long heavy DA first shot with subsequent lighter SA shots like a sig or Beretta. Is this not the case?
 
It's single action 99.9999999% of the time, UNLESS you get a failure to fire. It then reverts back to double action , allowing you to do a second strike to try and fire again.

THe best way to test it with one in hand is to dry fire in single action, then, WITHOUT racking the slide, pull the trigger again.
 
If thats the case I guess I probably won't get one then. I already have a FEG PJK-9HP I carry and compete with. I thought the Taurus was a Double Action. I don't have any need for another single action. I also assume that the PRO wouldn't qualify for IDPA SSP then either.

I know the regular 24/7 is DAO. I REALLY don't have a need for one of those.
 
The 24/7 Pro starts out at full cock in single action operation. It only gives you a double action trigger pull in the event you try to restrike a misfired round. As I see it that would put it in IDPA ESP, but it would take contact with IDPA HQ to be sure.

I have been told that there is a 24/7 non-Pro that has Glockoid or DAO trigger. I do not know if that is so, but 24/7 (without "pro") is on the USPSA Production list which means it cannot be single action only.

Yea. Some sort of vendetta. I noticed it too.

My 24/7 in .40 was a dream to shoot - but just a little big for CCW. Then again, YMMV.
 
My 24/7 in .45 had FTFs in each of 4 magazines last sunday, but I just figured out that ParaOrdnance mags fit and seem to function in the 24/7.

I posted a new thread about that.
 
I've put around 1000 rnds through my pt24/7 pro .40S&W, without the slightest hickup. I've yet to read any negative articles in any credible handgun magazines about this weapon either.
 
If I found a good deal on one I might still get one but without the DA trigger I'm a little more skeptical. I read that the slide is less than an inch thick and I bet it would be a very comfy carry gun. It's lighter than my HP and probably just as slim.
 
Then again. With all the Taurus bashing going around it may be just as fun to beat people with a 24/7 as it is to beat them with my FEG. Hmmmmm. Got me thinking now. I love beating gun snobs with a "cheap" gun. My first competition I beat 4 guys with Kimber .45s, 2 Springer KDs, and a Ruger P89. They didn't even take me seriously until the scores were posted. Then they all wanted to shoot my gun. I should get my hands on one of these and give it a try I guess.

Still, my PT-145 Millennium Pro is drop-dead reliable and very accurate for a CCW piece. Every manufacturer makes an occasional lemon, and you can even find Jennings and Lorchins that are reliable. You pays your money and you takes your chances. ;)
 
Yes, a former roommate had a Lorcin 380 that he had put well over 5000 rounds through it - but the most he ever shot in one sitting was 100 rounds, and then cleaned it well after shooting. Not bad for a "throw-away" gun.
 
I have had a FEG PJK-9HP for more than a year now. I've put about 1500 rounds through it and I have NEVER had a malfunction. The closest I've come is when a friend fired it and I noticed the base plate of the magazine had come loose and had slid forward. I corrected that problem with a new base. It's a sweet shooter and I would recommend it to anyone.
 
Shoot a Taurus PT 111MP.Triggers of what you are looking at and the PT111 are similar.There is a Taurus Forum ,Not the Other Taurus Forum, and the people over there can help.More than a few 24/7 fans at the site.The site is run by infopop. From what I've seen here at at other forums there are satisfied Taurus users.Yes, there are bashers who flit from place to place and slam Taurus.Own taurus revolvers too.Been thru the Boy do you have a loser gun crowd.Mine work fine.Good luck and happy shooting.Don"t let the:evil: get you down.
