Thanks for the comments. This old Flues has seen a lot of days in the field. We got a big Tom within about 80 yards of us tonight, but a coyote snuck up and tried to get him. I didn't get the Tom or the coyote. Still had a great evening with lots of turkeys and deer to be seen. Will try again tomorrow.
Every year I try and get out with my dad's hand-me down 1897 pump. Over the years it has proved to be a good turkey gun, regardless of it's 2 3/4" shell limitation. I also try to get the old Fox model B SxS 16 ga. handed down to me by my grandpa half a century ago. Something about those old guns just make the hunt special.
I don't own one as old as those but my late cousin owned a 1920's era King Nitro Express SxS 12 ga. I can't even think of how many birds, rabbits, and other game that gun has taken. Keep showing those pics.
Here is one more pic I took this weekend. Turkeys were skiddish as always. Finally got a tom saturday after switching guns for a little more range. I wish I could have gotten close with this one, but there is always next year.
I had one just like it. Unfortunately somebody had sawed the barrels off to about 24 inches to make a quail gun out of it I assume. Actually pretty common back in the day. Being the genius I am I decided to back bore the barrels to get a little choke back in them and had one of the barrels split a few inches past the forearm. I got some quotes to rebarrel back to the mono block. But, price was way more than the gun was worth and I had no particular sentimental attachment to it. I gave it to a dentist over in Winston Salem who wanted to do something with it. Don't know whether he ever did or not. They are a very nice double.
