Turnbull is renown for their case color hardened finish (and other finishes and restorations as well). That said, I've seen a lot of hate on various forums for how it looks on a semi-auto like the Mark IV.

I personally think it looks great (although it begs for upgraded grip panels) and have ordered one for myself!

    What do you think?

I love Turnbull's work, but personally the Ruger Mark series is a butt ugly design IMO. I know they are good shooters, but I've never liked them. So this is sort of a "silk hat on a pig" to my eyes.

None the less, I hope you enjoy your new gun and look forward to a range report when you've shot it.

Looks like a mess that was dug out of the ashes of a fire.

I like small case hardened parts on vintage type firearms, maybe up to the receiver on a '73, or a frame on a Colt SSA. Just not into it for modern guns, and definitely not for large pieces as on this Ruger.

My opinion, my taste, but certainly everyone is entitled to their own. Enjoy your new gun!

That's about what they were saying on several other forums. Guess I should throw more of my guns in a fire! :fire:;)

Looks like a bad attempt at camouflage.

I think it looks quite a lot like camo as well, but I like the color variation. I guess I'm the oddball here from the votes so far. I've also read that it looks better in person than the stock photos. Once I have mine in hand I'll post a follow-up and also upload some pics. I've ordered upgraded grips as well, but they are backordered so the pics will likely just be the polymer grips.

If I may be irreverent... All the artillery-like aerodynamics with Wehrmacht camouflage, perched on top of Luger grips strongly make me think of a PanzerKampfWagen Howitzer Gross Bertha MkVIII... :D

Anna's Dad, if you're happy man, that's all that matters. There's a lot of THR folks I've heard comment that they only like all black guns. That's how my girl friend is, and it makes no sense to me. there is a lot of variety out there.

It doesn't matter what any of us think at all.

Just a personal thing, but I don't care for CC on modern firearms such as this Ruger or the 1911s done in a similar fashion. But as my Uncle Roy said, "It's a good that everyone doesn't like the same things, or everyone would want my woman." If it floats your boat, do it.

I would want the frame to match (I know that's not possible on that gun) and some type fancy grips, probably a dark wood. As it is the frame and barrel just don't go together in my opinion.

I love properly done color case hardening, whether on vintage Colt's, Winchesters and Marlins or contemporary custom Rugers and USFA's. I have spent quite a few dollars with Turnbull and the results are spectacular. I even like the S&W Heritage models with the frame case colored. However, I just don't think it looks right on a MK-series or AR. It's kinda cool on a 1911 but that's iffy.

CraigC, a man of distinction who knows a fine firearm and can pick a fine cigar as well. Add in a penchant for top shelf bourbon and you would have the trifecta.

I think it looks good. I think it would look better on just the rear receiver portion with the barrel black to match the grip frame.

Better yet, just the grip frame color case hardened with the whole upper black would probably look best IMO.

Don't care for the case color hardening on the upper receiver but kind of like strambo's suggestion.

I wouldn't want one but I have no problem with someone else liking it. If that's what you want, get it.

I would not spend my money to have it done , I think it looks good and many have a different bank account and desires than me .

I love a fine cigar almost as much as a fine sixgun! I like bourbon but port is more my speed. Amarula or a white Russian goes good with a smoke too! ;)

I love case hardening on a gun's frame and hammer.

Having it all the way down the barrel like that just looks silly to me.
I wouldn't do it at all to an autoloader.

But that is merely my opinion. If you like it, that is all that matters. There is no right or wrong, simply personal preference.

I LIKE it. It's totally steampunk looking. I have seen a few 1911s with color case hardened frames and I like them also.

If you’re going for steampunk, you’re gonna need to copper plate the lower receiver and put a new front sight on it. Maybe like on an anti-aircraft gun. Just thinking out loud.

No. That finish doesn't belong on that gun.

I don't imagine it will wear very well. It's a LOT of real estate to cover with case hardening.
