Turned my AR15A2 retro

The A2 stock on my AR was too long for my liking, so I decided to put a M16 stock (w/o trapdoor) on it to get the shorter length that I wanted. While checking prices for a stock I discovered that I could get a complete M16 stock set in fair condition from Gunparts Corp for $24 shipped. I still need to clean them up a bit more, paint them and get a shorter A1 stock screw. The A2 screw extends into the buffer tube and will not allow the bolt to cycle correctly, but that's an easy fix.
Anyway here is my Colt AR15-A2 Retro.

While I like the longer A2 buttstock, I did put a set of NIB A1 handguards on my Bushie A2. I like the looks and feel of the triangular handguards better. Now you just need a full bird-cage flash hider.

Here is some retro for you:

Colt A1 upper, tear drop forward assist, A1 profile 1/12" twist Saco Colt barrel, with appropriate A1 bird cage flash supressor, with the correct A1 pistol grip, triangle handguard and trap door-less A1 stock with a period correct green web GI sling.

SMLE, actually I am thinking about getting the prong flash hider.

Buckshot, yea you can get them new, but a complete set will put you back $100 or better. That's why I opted for the $24 set and a can of paint.

A study in the progression of BRD

Nice guns, guys.


After another exercise in attempting to placate the gods of BRD, I wound up with this leftover:


Well, I'd kind of wanted to put together a 20" and use it to work on shooting with irons, so I ordered a barrel assembly from CMMG. When I did I noticed that they offered a triangular handguard option, so what the heck. And I'd never had a three prong flash hider, so I ordered it with that as well. Then I just put it together with the remaining lower I had:


And this was the result:


Seemed like a decent 20" to me, but the bug was workin'.

So now I've got a slick side A1 upper, A1 grip, A1 stock and A1 delta ring in the UPS pipeline. It will go on a different lower that has the straight trigger guard, but I'm drawing the line there; that's as far as it goes.

And it will all be cosmetic anyway, as the barrel's a 1:7 and it will have a two stage match trigger. I think it'll be a fun gun.

Of course, all that is going to leave me with something left over:

I'm still having difficulties locating a place that sells the retro style triangular handguards. I looked a CMMG and Retroblackrifle.com and couldn't find any for sale at either place.
