My place got broken into, and the neighbor's as well. The old lady that lives there, she is wallowing in fear; and when I asked how she is planning to protect herself in the unfortunate situation that the thief breaks in WHILE she is at home; her answer?

I'm going to hide in my house, pray that he doesn't come when I am at home, (or ever again) and turn the TV up REALLY REALLY LOUD, so he won't come in.

TV as a substitute for self-defense; unless you are planning on showing Rosie's mug on it 24/7, I don't see how a TV is going to protect you.

"Stop! Or else I'm going to turn the tv volume up louder!!" :confused: :rolleyes:

If ever there was a reason to buy a shotgun, getting robbed and thinking of the possibility of an in-home invasion would just about do it for me...
 
Make a CD of a bunch of guys playing cards, guzzling beer and talking about wimmen. You know it's good when the neighbors call the cops and the SWAT team shows up.
 
Twoblink, could you imagine if CA gun laws were applied? How many TV's do you think would pass the drop test? :scrutiny:

Lets just face facts...

No upstanding law abiding citizen needs a TV over 32 inches. We need to keep these high cap...ahh I mean big screen TVs off the streets. It's for the childrens eyes.

Does that mean that adding a playstation could only be done to pre-ban TVs or would playstation be like a post may dealer sample? We would all have to use Atari again.

Just out of curiosity, are swords legal to own? How about crossbows? How about chainsaws. Seriously if somebody breaks in and you come charging at them with murder in your eye with a nice STIHL running full blast like the TCM it's gotta have a psychological effect on the assailent. I mean I personally would rather take a bullet then get cut into cord wood.

The reason I bring this up is not allowing a certain class to own weapons for defense is not a new concept, it has been happening all over the world since forever. Some of the nastiest weapons ever devised were improvised from the local tools at hand. Adapt and overcome.

Pneumatic air gun with the compressor ready to go. You can get a pretty serious rate of fire out of a good one and there sure isn't a 10 round mag limit.:evil:

I think you can have an extension cord if it is the only accessory and it was made before 1994. You can also have a anti-glare film applied but I don't think you can have the anti-glare AND the extension cord. Better check with the BATF* directly on that - I wouldn't listen to what anyone behind the counter at Circuit City or BestBuy says. And of course, PRK, NJ and Mass have their own, more restrictive laws.

How tactical? Well, lemme tell you...

31" GE (hey, it fit...)
Denon AVR 1803 receiver
El-cheapo DVD player, but hey, it does 5.1, DTS, and has an S-video out...
Infinity Entra center and fronts, Infinity vintage Studio Monitor 120s for the sides, and some old Advents for the rear. Currently running an el-cheapo truck box with my old Marantz for a jury rigged sub, but will be getting an Infinity soon.

By the way, the front Infinity speakers are black, and the big bore ones on the side have black screens and some nice looking veneer.

When watching THR-favorite movies, I have the capability of cranking the sound loud enough that the police may need to kick in my door...

I'm currently running my four big speakers as "large" and splitting the sub signal between them and the el-cheapo box/marantz. You can definitely tell a difference, and I suspect that I'll be able to tell a bigger difference when I get a real sub. With movies with a lot of low frequency effects, such as U571, there's a major difference. The opening scenes in Saving Private Ryan are incredible, and the feeling of being in the middle of a firefight, with noises coming from all around you, is very high in movies like Blackhawk Down and We Were Soldiers. If you're into "gun" movies, you NEED a good home theater setup, with a subwoofer.
 
Studies have shown that watching TV will shorten you life span, due to lack of exercise, being sedentary, and junk food. If a BG breaks into to her apartment (again), if she can get the on the couch and hand him the remote, he will surely perish years before his time. This would be the slowest form of self defense imaginable. But seriously, this is not rational, at least get a dog, an alarm, or <gasp> a pistol.
 
By the way, the setup in the "Bunker" isn't used for watching television - I suppose I could, if I wanted to figure out how to make the tuner work...

The "TV" television is in front of my torturecycle. I'm up to a bit over 8 miles in 28 minutes...

My TV weighs 250 pounds, so I suppose I could use it for self-defense during a home invasion: turn on something entertaining (porno?) and when the robbers get close to the screen, tip it over on them. :eek: :p
 
My mother's method. Well, almost... TV up loud so intruder doesn't hear 120-lb. Akita lunge. ("Unlicensed weapon" knows and likes exactly seven people, all others beware.):fire:

How about Marantz sources, close to a kilowatt worth of Adcom amps, Polk center channel, Klipsch Legends at the corners, and what appears at first glance to be a coffee table is actually a JL Audio 15W6 in a custom box tuned for a -3dB point of 17Hz :D

I really gotta get something better than that 27" saturday night special Magnavox

Trust me, if someone dropped a 32" TV on you from the 7th floor on you; the damage is roughly equal to a 308...
 
If anything, the TV takes away from any tactical advantage you have from HEARING something. Jeez. Do Taiwanese sheep crossbreed with ostriches?
 
Oooooh.... I want, I want...

Izzat one of those SVS subs, or is it a different critter? I'm starting to think that the Bunker could use it's own Missile Silo... If I get really strange, I may go out and buy a big chunk of sonotube, and try making one - but I'll have to scrounge a decent amp first... Of course, too much bass in an apartment could definitely cause the neighbors to come knockin'....

I admit it. I'm deprived. I've got a friend who is running 2 Phase Linear 400s, and one Phase Linear 700. That's some honkin' power, and will definitely reproduce a firefight. But he's in a house.
