Two MSR's in the store yesterday

Almost had a heart attack yesterday. I was in the local Wal-Mart and walked through the sporting goods section. No ammo at all except shotgun shells BUT there were two MSR's in the gun rack. There was a Bushmaster 16" w/ removable handle for $947 and a Colt 16" flat top with flip up sights for $1097. Maybe things are looking a bit brighter for those folks looking for a fair price.
 
I have not noticed a big price increase at Walmart but they are out of so much it is a hit and miss. I bought a S&W MP22 two weeks ago at the same price as before the panic.
 
What does it mean? People are just too lazy to type a few extra letter's trying to be Joe kool I guess. MSR, sound's drug related.
 
Would we all be happy with continuing to call it an assault rifle?

MSR works for me; thing is that for it to gain traction and start being recognized, we need to embrace it and start using the term.
 
That or shall we join the anti's in calling them assault weapons? MSR is appropriate, as well as calling them defense carbine or the like. That said, I associate MSR with Mountain Science Research, which makes a bunch of hiking/camping gear :p.
 
MSRs? I went straight to mountain Safety Research stoves.

I think the greater value of the thread is to bring up the issue of acronyms of limited use.
please folks, if it's worth telling people, it's worth spelling out.

Directly to the point - I wonder how long they'll be there and what was the status of magazines and .223 at the same store?
 
I posted on the thread that discussed the renaming of the black rifle. I still think its a bit late in this battle to expect it to change anyone's mind, but I'll admit it is a good idea long-term.

Since I'm good at finding problems :) let me ask this: does referring to it as a "modern sporting rifle" reinforce the notion that these are only useful for sport? We already have a huge number of people that think the 2A was only written to preserve our hunting and sporting traditions, and we've seen what they think of that.

I wonder if something like a "dedicated defense rifle" or even "personal defense rifle" wouldn't be more apt. Start putting the idea in their heads that this is for defense, not assault or sport.

Just my two cents.

$1097 on that Colt.... Same as before Christmas here at Local Wally World!

I will be frequenting wally world at opening hour in sporting goods.... hope I can get another Colt for that price.

Got a DPMS and A Windham second week of December and was planning another
Colt for the new year, but things took a dive as we all know.
 
I'm not sold on the use of the word modern.

I feel like antis will jump on that with the notion that such weapons are these new innovations that are part of some scary new world.

Plus the AR platform doesn't seem all that modern to me. It's 50 years old right?

How about we make the M stand for modular instead?

FWIW IMHO a MSR purchased at a LGS is the way to show support for your RKBA. Of course you better get one before an AWB, TSHTF or TEOTWAWKI situation. As always, WYSIWYG and YMMV. ROTFLMAO

A week ago the Memphis Bass Pro Shop had four AR-15s. A buddy was there.
One quickly sold, then the other three were there for a while.

People seem to assume that no new deliveries are coming in, and make too few phone calls.
 
IMHO the only true AR - 15 is a Colt. Colt owns the name "AR - 15". It's sorta like Chevy has the Malibu, Ford does not. I first saw the term MSR (Modern Sporting Rifle) here on THR, that's where I got it. To me, everybody using the label AR-15 is just feeding fuel to the fire the anti's are burning. The AR-15 and other companies variations are NOT assault weapons and I think we should do all we can to educate the anti gun people what the difference is.

And no I did not buy the guns that were at Wal-Mart.
