My wife and I visited Pebble Hill Plantation, just outside of Thomasville, GA recently and had the opportunity to tour the house. The guide stated that the armory was located in the basement of the kitchen, however, visitors were not allowed in that area. I did notice some inexpensive black powder guns throughout the house and a "pepper box" pistol, but nothing that stirred my interest.

it did however had me wondering what the typical Plantation Era armory contained during the height of that Era...would it be large enough to arm the loan citizens in case of emergency?

Probably some muskets, shotguns in their and some revolvers, no doubt. Maybe even some single shot pistols before 1836 when the Colt Paterson was invented.

I'm curious about why "no visitors" to the armory? Was it still filled up with guns & they were afraid of a "rebellion" taking place? :uhoh:
