I'm in Cincinnati so any hand gun I bought in Fort Worth had to be ATF antique.
My wife had a business convention (Park Lane Jewelry) at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine and I liked to tag along.
Lots of down time to read in their water garden and when I got tired of that I went souvenir shopping for my hobby!
...Quick aside - When my son turned two in 1986 he was into everything and I sold my first collection of guns.
.....When I retired in 2004, my wife said I needed a hobby (she had golf in mind, I think) and I said "I know just the hobby!"
........I hit GB running and have not stopped since!
Lots of the stores I called only had modern "plastic" guns!
Actually the store that found what I was looking for is technically in Dallas.
I had seen Jackson Armory sell stuff on GB so I gave them a call and they accommodated me with typical Southern Hospitality.

Don't tell me you live in California! FFL fee for a black powder revolver? My brother (in Georgia) bought a black powder revolver on Gunbroker one time and the seller was insistent on mailing it to his local FFL. Bro was pissed and his bros' FFL was pissed it went to them because they don't document or do background checks for such things. His FFL just handed him the gun and said "don't use us if you come across another knucklehead that wants to send a black powder revolver to an FFL".

 

Even California doesn't regulate percussion revolvers. They can be shipped directly to your door here.

 

You need to know not only the laws where you reside but where you buy as well! Illinois does regulate percussion!

I have purchases C&B stuff from both RIA and from Simpsons (both Chicago) and they require shipment to my FFL here in Ohio.

He only charges $20 for the transfer.

If I am buying multiple guns through him at the same time, its still just $20 total.

NRA has a page that lists the gun regs in each state/city but I do not know how up to date it is with their current troubles.

there finally came a time in my revolver collecting when i realized.... I love my ASM guns the most,I love My uberti guns and they are finished the nicest out of all my revolvers and the metal feels better heat treated then the other guns, but my pietta guns are the most trouble free smooth running percussion revolvers i own.
If i could only have 1 percussion revolver to use in a shtf situation it would be my Pietta 1860 army just for reliabilty and how smooth and perfect the action feels.

 

This one had the smoothest action of any C&B revolver I've had. Not even close to historically correct with the CCH and checkered grips.

 

get a open top pietta, you wont be disappointed.

crazy to think the cheapest gun is extremely well built.

Watch the pietta factory tour, the factory is pretty old school with a bunch of hand fitting going on with the employees.

Pietta guns are extremely reliable and nice but people get hung up over the black powder only stamped on the side of the barrel. Which to me is no big deal, Sure its not pretty but to have a trouble free reliable revolver i can live with the barrel stamping.

 

I do like the case colors anyway.

 

From what I'm seeing its dropping late, it should drop the width of the bolt head before it goes into the notch. Also seeing peening on the opposite side of the notch indicating late timing.

 

Its dropping right at the edge of the notch and its hitting hard.
