Anything wrong with doing some mild loads using 200 G lead SWC? I want to use a taper crimp die?

Not a tall.

As long as they are mild loads.

Shofields ain't the strongest guns ever made.

We have a Uberti 58 New Army Conversion in 45C. We have alot of fun shooting 200g RNFP lead, with 6.3g Trail Boss. Accurate. Shoot alot of them, especially my wife, where the recoil doesn't wear her hands out. 45C reloads easy, great caliber to shoot and enjoy.

You can taper crimp , the 45 Colt headspaces of the rim of the case, but roll crimping is the norm for revolvers.

If you have 45 Colt dies the bullet seater can be adjusted to roll crimp when you seat the bullet,it saves a step.

Plus one on the TrailBoss !

IMR (Maker of TrailBoss)suggested loads for a 200 gr lead bullet is MIN of 5.5 and a max of 6.5 (About 865 FPS) I also like the 6.3 loads of TrailBoss with a 200gr bullet. If it is less recoil that you are looking for perhaps try a 180gr or 160gr bullet I have shot lots of 200gr bullets with TrailBoss in my Schofield with no problems.

I do have a question--why are you shooting wadcutters?

Good Luck

"I do have a question--why are you shooting wadcutters?"

I have had excellent accuracy results with this projectile from other hand guns. Manufactured 25 of these yesterday with 6.5 G of 231 to try in the 45 Uberti Schofield as soon as time allows.

Most accurate boolit fo my Pietta 58 Remy .45 Colt Kirst conversion cylinder is 185 grain SWC. Pietta 58 Remy has a slower rifling twist than Uberti and doesn't like the heavier boolits.
