I'm considering one of these guns. Looking for input from anyone who owns or has fired one. I'm not sure, but I think Beretta sells them too.

I know S&W has a version as well, so if you got one of them, please respond as well.

I like my a Uberti in 44-40. S&W no longer makes theirs. If you can find one they are very good, but the cylinder is shorter as were the originals, and it only fires 44 Russian or 45 Scofield.

I own two. One is the short barrelled version, and the other is the long barrelled version. Both are Ubertis.

They are nice revolvers. The front sights on both were too high and had to be filed down. Also, although they are accurate enough for plinking and fun, they are not as accurate as SAA replicas. I have heard here that the 44-40 barrels that Uberti uses are actually sized for 44 special bullets and not 44-40. I have never slugged the barrel to be sure, but wouldnt be surprised. They still work fine, though, and I consider this only a minor issue.

There are Uberti Schofields and Uberti Model 3 Russian. In the originals, the first is a military revision of the earliest Model 3 (the Russian was a bit later), and the Army issued hundreds of Schofields. It has a better latch and better rear sights. The rear sight on the Model 3 is barely there, it is so small.

I shoot the Schofield and really like the balance with the 5-inch barrel. The downside is that the Schofield grip makes it hard to do the required thumbcocking without lifting the muzzle noticably skyward. That was OK in the old days, but can get you frowned at when at a range these days.

I can't comment on the Russian for cocking as I have not shot one.
