UCN 1201 12ga Pump Shotgun

[M2 Carbine]

Is anyone familiar with this shotgun or UCN?

I've got 4 shotguns, 870, Ithaca, etc but I'm not really a "shotgun person".

I saw this one in an AIM ad and thought it looked cool, so I ordered one.

For under $150, I figure if it isn't a total piece of junk it could be put to work as a "car gun" or a "barn gun".

It's a Norinco clone of an Ithaca Model 37. I bought one a while back from Classic Arms and, even with shipping, it was under $150.

It arrived drier than dry and needed a good detail inspection and lubrication but it shoots good and hasn't been a problem. I've run slugs and buckshot through mine and figure its a pretty good deal for the price and the Peoples Liberation Army can sure use the money.

I was pretty sure it was Chinese.
I didn't think to ask when I ordered it, not that it would have made any difference.

Do you mean they have the rear sight on backwards?

I'm interested to see how the rear sight is attached. Screws?
Maybe I can make up a Weaver base to replace the rear sight.

I've got Red Dot sights on my 870 and Ithaca.
They work very well around the place, especially at night.


My yards are bigger than the shotgun's effective range (with shot) but I do have neighbors within rifle or pistol range.
So a shotgun is good for unwanted critters, especially at night.

the rear sight protector on most shotguns, like the benelli, has the portion that sticks up higher in line with the rear sight aperature. it looks like this one was mis assembled.

I ordered one through a local gun shop recently and had to send it back, the bore looked as if it had been shot and not cleaned. The slide release nearly cut my finger when I used it, the front sight was bent, the locking nut couldn't be budged without using a pair of visegrips. Besides that it was an excellent shotgun.

Alvin, you have ruined my whole day.

You know, come to think of it I've bought many "brand name" guns that have been shot and not cleaned.
You would think after test firing they could run an oily patch through the bore.

That was my FIRST experience with Norinco and my LAST. Didn't mean to ruin your day. Sorry. I've never had the problem of an uncleaned firearm from an American Manufacturer in the past. I found the weapon crudely put together. I only hope that I don't get too much trouble from SOG on the refund.

I have the remington 870 clone, the 981 I believe, I love this thing, I took it out and put 125 rounds of birdshot through it as fast as I could load and pull the trigger, I mutilated a box in the process, and all that was left was shreds of cardboard. The barrel got very hot, but it shot nicely through it all, with no malfunctions, brought it home and it didn't take alot to clean it.

The drop on the stock in that picture is HIDEOUS! It's not an optical illusion, that thing must have a foot of drop to it!

BTW, any of you fellows that owns/ has seen the shotgun.

How is the rear sight mounted?
4 screws at the corners, 2 screws at the center?

A couple center screws would make it easier to install a Weaver base for a Red Dot.

How is the rear sight mounted?

I yanked mine out and took a look at it. The sight on mine is correctly assembled with the protective "ears" to the rear. The sight is mounted with two good sized screws situated fore and aft, on the centerline.

Thanks buddy, that's what I wanted to hear.

I've become a big fan of Red Dots (66 year old eyes).
It sounds like it will be a snap to install a Weaver base.

I got the gun a couple days ago.

Like "Alvin York's" the front sight was off to the left.
In the model 37 design there's a "saddle" near the end of the magazine tube that the barrel seats in.
I loosened the saddle clamp screw and rotated it a little right to line up the sight.

I've had several times where the shell didn't feed from the magazine on the first try.
I'll have to check for burrs or roughness. (worked OK today)

Replacing the rear sight with a Weaver base and Red Dot sight worked perfect.
The sight base is held on with 2 number 6 screws.
A little small for a scope mount.
I tapped the two holes to #8/40.
The #8 screw will work with the iron sight if I want to reinstall it.

Saturday I run shot, buckshot and slugs through it.
Sunday after installing the Red Dot I sighted in with shot and buckshot.
This morning I ran some more #4 and 00 buckshot through it.
No problems.

It looks like the gun will be a keeper.



About 1/8 inch steel hit with Wolf brand slugs at 20 yards. (made in Germany)

Got a High Standard riot gun instead

I recieved my refund check from SOG last week. While waiting for the check I purchased a high standard flite king shot gun. I am quite a bit happier with the hi standard shot gun than I was with the Norinco knock off. One flaw with the weapon I could've lived with but the collection of problems I had with the Norinco shot gun turned me off on the product and the company. While I know that parts for the Hi-Standard may be a problem I am happy with the price and the construction of it.
