That Blackhawk will take a heck of a lot of hot 357, and Not be a -Nats eye lash- of a difference looser than when it was built at the factory. Yes Sr, that’s is a Tough 357.

I shot the old one I had with Hot 357 a good while and often, it was Solid. Yet it went the way some other Beauties have gone……. Into faint memory and for another I had my eyes on.

Yessir, and she don't kick like a mule either.

I’m a S&W guy- had a Python,Diamondback ,Redhawk,Sp101…. yet Many Smiths. I gotta say Hess Hard1 - When looking for a Tough Revolver to accommodate my Marlin Rifles… I was looking at the Security/Service Six models. Robust and Not bad looking. What ya have there is Sharp! I like that- Though my S&W 13 & 686Mg is just more my Style. Bet that Ruger could handle any 357 ammo, and have no problems.

I really like my Old School Ruger .357 Police Service Six.

It's blue with a 2.75" barrel. Great snubby shooter. Easy to carry too.

Thanks. Yeah, it shoots the hot .357 ammo as well as .38 Wadcutter loads equally well. Seems pretty bomb-proof.

Nice for carry I’m sure. The 13 I have is a 3” - Great for carry ,Yet can’t shoot to hot of stuff, I want it to last… hence the 686.
Your Ruger certainly is a good mix of everything.

GRIZ22,

I have to take back what I said, at least partially.

I was at the one of the local gun stores and found a new RUGER GP-100 blue model with a 4.2 inch barrel (CANADA legal). The action was notably smoother than the stainless GP-100's I have handled, so I bought it. The action is still a little heavy in double action, so I will send it off to get the barrel MAGNA-PORTED and a trigger job.
I took it to the range the next day and it shot well with both .38 Special 158 grain lrn and .357 magnum 110 grain jhp. I am going to try some DOUBLE TAP 125 grain +P ammo and REMINGTON .357 magnum 125 grain sjhp next. I really like the DOUBLE TAP +P round for self defense.

The trigger is similar to my 6 inch, blue Security Six, in that it is fairly smooth, but not as smooth as my 4 inch Security Six which had a very good action job before I got it (I liked the trigger so much, I bought it on the spot).

I have noticed, that the action on RUGER stainless guns is generally not as smooth as the blue ones. Has anyone else found this to be true?

Jim

I have never found Ruger action to be smooth right out of the gate but easy to work on

Just asking but why magnaport a 357

I’ve got a marlin 357 16” they ported it at the factory
. Tho my 45 colt 16” is not .
Not sure what genius made that decision

Just 1 357 to rule them all?
All the 357’s I have the one I would run back into the house and fire for would probably be and this is only if I can only have one my Dan Wesson model 15 with three different barrel length or 715 also with three different barrels

Otherwise tossup between colt Python 2020 and Smith and Wesson model 27 Dash two both with 6 inch barrels

Dan Wesson! Nice choice.
Can you tell us your opinion on the 2020 Python? I had a 72 nickel 6” . What’s the new model like.

A S&W 27 ? Seems like you have to many, I’ll take the 27 off of your hands for you. I’m a nice guy like that.

Favorite .357 is a 6" Colt Python I bought new in the 70's, it has been retired from full house loads for probably over 20 years. Never thought the Python would make a comeback so I acquired a Dan Wesson 715 for use with heavy loads. Excellent firearm and my only complaint is the weight. Love the fact I can easily swap out barrels.
Naturally right after I sprung for the new 4" Cobra target Colt announced the new Python. o_O
Oh well that's life.;)

I own a number of .357's. From older Pythons and S&W 19's and 686's. I still think it's hard to beat the Mod 19-4 4" "Combat Magnum" though. I may be a little jaded as I have one of my late fathers 19 which he used to beat Bill Jordan(the father of the S&W mod 19) at a state match back in the early 70's.

Is that basically a SW clone?
Not a S&W clone.

They use really high grade carbon steel to make them. Hammer forge the barrel around the rifling, meaning the rifling is smooth because it wasn't cut. The cylinders are finished by a cold burnishing technique that hard faces the cylinders

There is a hammer spring-weight adjustment screw and a hammer-force adjustment screw. You can make adjustments to provide the best trigger action, while still maintaining absolutely reliable ignition. There are bearings in the trigger. There are videos out there on how this works but the short version is as you pull the trigger the spring rides up on the bearing so you get a better trigger pull. Some of the force instead of pushing forward against the trigger pushes down. Basically the trigger is wicked good on these because trigger pressure doesn't peak.

Gunsmiths spend 12 hours hand polishing and fitting these together. Each pistol is fired to make sure they can put 15 rounds in a .8 inch circle at 25 yards.

These were designed to the specs of the GIGN and were designed to take 150 rounds a day of full power 357 loads, 40K a year. There are records of these pistols going over 100K rounds with no issues, there is record of one pistol going over 1 million rounds without any major part failure. They were designed to take 2x the pressure of a 357 load without coming apart or hurting the operator. (Not to be used with 2x pressure ammo but to handle that fluke cartridge)

The GIGN originally tried to use S&W but the revolvers would wear out with the really heavy use that the GIGN was putting them through.

I know most people don't wear out their revolvers but if you are the type of person who shoots enough to do that, then this might be the revolver for you. Or if you want really high end service duty pistol, high end because it was built to be used, not just look pretty in the safe. This revolver has a long and proven track record with a very elite team over many years.

Here's my 19-3 I bought at auction recently with the Jordan grips. A little too fat for me- work with the hammer back and SA, but a bit of a reach with the trigger all the way forward. Put on some Hogues that fit me better. Lovely gun.
