Ultimate 357 magnum revolver if you were going to have ONE?

I like fixed sights
S&W 681 is my only 357

I've owned a lot of 357's. Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Colt, and Taurus. I've never had one I didn't like. Just pick one you like, and you'll most likely be happy with it.

I suppose if I was going to pick one to carry around in a holster and bang off stuff, I'd pick my "Classic" Model 19-9 Smith and Wesson. Yes...the one with the lock. Maybe it's not as "pretty" as the only ones, but in my hands it shoots better. I don't worry about blowing 357 ammo through it all day long. It came out of the box with a really good trigger, and the finish seems to wear well. If something were to break, I can send it back to the factory to be fixed.

And for those who say "You ever notice no one shows the side with the lock."

Not a deal breaker for me. For others, it may be.

Fyrstyk,

Certainly wouldn't argue with your
choice; have seen nothing but excellent
reports on the Freedom Arms over
the years. Certainly more durable than the
L-frame/41 frame guns I chose.

Finally shot my pre-safety Marlin 1894 357 magnum today and boy oh boy...What in the world have I been missing? Such a pleasant and satisfying firearm to shoot!

What kind of 1894 do you have? Octagonal barrel, round barrel, pistol grip, straight grip, barrel length?

After thinking about it I believe a 6" barrel is the ticket

For me, it's my custom 686-4

The dash-4 is my favorite era of 686, old enough to have forged hammer and trigger guts, new enough to be drilled & tapped for optics.

Mine started out as a 6"
I had Andy Horvath cut it back to 5" and install a new 7 shot cylinder and hand.

Weygand front sight base and skinny DAWSON 0.100" fiber front sight

I would just go with a 4" GP-100. And I did. I own nine 357 revolvers and its the one I use the most. My second favorite is a Security Six with 4" barrel. Its the same size and feel as a model 19 without the overblown worry of a cracked forcing cone. But if for some reason I had to start over and just own one 357 it would be one of the new model 19s like shown by CajunBass in his post above. That gun will last you a lifetime with reasonable care. And no I am not bothered by the lock.
