A close friend of mine in a conversation said to me, the 3inch revolver is the absolute best fighting revolver ever made no matter the brand. I told him let’s get our hands on as many 3in revolvers as we possibly can to test his theory. 3in revolvers do seem to be some of the most sought after in the collectors world and in my hands no matter the manufacturer they are the most well balanced. We were able to coral SA/DA revolver from most every manufacturer that exist today. I am very well aware there are others like Korth, Chiappa and a few others. I did reach out to them to see if they wanted a chance to dance with the Devil they politely declined or I did not get a response. I didn't really expect anything different for a random stranger like myself to them but thought I would try. As I was personally very interested in understanding why the 3in revolver is so sought after. In this picture: S&W Model 65 -- Heavily Modified Cut from 4in to 3in recrowned, trigger job, front night sight. Ultimate Trigger Kimber K6s -- 3dot sights, Smallest/lightest 6 shot steel revolver made to date. Ultimate Carry S&W Model 19 -- K Frame -- Carry Comp, Night Sight, Ported. Mr. Universal Ruger GP100 -- Traditional grips great feel, stout Ultimate Durability Colt Python 2022 -- Traditional sights, red ramp front, stout, butt of the grips rather large even for my big meat hooks. Mr. Hollywood Guest Appearance Not In Picture -- S&W 686 L Frame -- Tradition sights, red ramp front, Boot Grips, Ultimate Duty The Challenge 6-6-6 With every visit to the range yes I am having a lot of fun, often I end the range session deliberately with a little training. 6 Shots 6 Yards from target 6 Seconds par time -- Timer set on random start time All to be fired double action. Starting with the muzzle pointed at the ground waist high or resting on a table waist high. If there is enough interest we can create classes for 5 shot pocket snubbie and longer barrel revolvers. Submit Your Scores All scores with pictures can be submitted to [email protected] Example score submission: In Summary The range can be fun even when incorporating training. 3inch revolvers enhances that activity as they are much easier to shoot than their pocket snubbie brethren. Some may see this as breaking one of trainings cardinal rule "Train with what you carry" I too believe strongly in this rule. Pocket snubbies are really easy to carry but can be hard to shoot for some so I also subscribe to every bit of training matters and every round down range counts if you are applying yourself and you learning something from it. I have tried and carried many revolvers and pistols and believe there is no such thing as the "perfect one" as there are to many situational scenarios. Though the 3in revolver is as close as they come to the holy grail of perfection.
Fun video! I bet if you put a grip adapter on that model 65, or a pachmayr, you might do better because it won't jump around as much in your hand. Nice guns!!!
I have thought about some Pach's for it but have not pulled the trigger yet may have to now Nice setup you have there by the way.
Being a long-time fan of 3" revolvers this caught my attention. I have several 3" guns including my latest, which is a bit of a different flavor...
Posted this picture before but could not resist. I truly could not decide which 3” barrel 357 magnum I should buy. So, over a two year period these four found a home. Also have a few more 3” barrel revolvers in 38 special, 32 long, 32 magnum, and 22 long rifle.
WOW What a nice collection ---- raise had close jaw and wipe drool Which one you going to enter into the challenge heheheheheheheh.
This Taurus 856 (A 3" non-ported 806 8 shot .357) has turned into one of my favorites. It doesn't seem all that big across the cylinder, until you put a 5 shot gun next to it. With .38 Spl's, it's almost like shooting a .22.

Love the speed six have wanted a stainless model for a long time but they are so hard to come by, sort of a shame.
Yeah, the Rossi 720 really is a classic. Mine is super fun to shoot. I'm also really liking the Model 82. I put boot grips on it, lightened the mainspring, and ground off the hammer spur. I hope to get a 3" J-frame eventually. Rossi 720 44 special by Tallball posted Mar 20, 2020 at 1:56 PM Taurus Model 82 spurless by Tallball posted Dec 11, 2021 at 1:17 PM
The M720 is a perfect carry gun imho, if i could find any 44 special... Guess i could load some up in mag cases. But yeah, 5 shot cylinder makes it a smaller package.
Hmm...3" barreled revolvers, eh? S&W 625-3 .45 ACP S&W Model 657 .41 magnums S&W Model 13-4 .357 magnum Cheating just a tad here but it looks cool! S&W Model 27-2 .357 magnum (3.5" barrel)
Like the rossi big blue. LOVE the Yukon Belt Knife. I've got enough knives to sink a battleship. But I have to get one of those one of these days
My 3” revolvers. 629 and Charter Bulldog. I had a Model 65 3” that was a disaster. Nothing wrong with the platform but Smith and Wesson made a bad one in that day. Never looked or sought out another. I am quite happy with my 2” guns for carry and 4” for Duty.
KoA are some of my favorite knives. All work and no frills. That yukon is one of the handiest knives ive carried. And razor sharp out of the box. Quality leather sheath too.
