After seeing a bunch of 'ultimate' threads, I was curious as to what was out there that specifically regarding guns, not gun parts, accessories, or other items, just guns. As near as I can tell, there are a lot of "ultimate" guns in various categories with lots of overlap in attributes even though the guns may not overlap. Based on the sampling, beyond somewhat factual information of quality, cost, and caliber issues that come into play, my guess is that the ultimate gun for whatever person for whatever purpose will really come down to very personal perceptions and decisions by the person who is planning on using the gun.

Some of the ultimate categories are for specialized guns and others are for generalized guns. Some gun models even managed to be both specialized and generalized guns, but I don't know exactly how that works.

Here are most of the Ultimate thread topics. Just add "ultimate" before each...
All around handgun
combat revolver
shtf rifle
gun (2 threads)
officer's acp
pimp gun
handgun
pocket gun
home defense revolver
BBQ gun
urban rifle
small game rifle
home defense gun for women
hunting handgun
woodsman (revolver)
ccw gun
"wish" rifle
357
HD shotgun
carry gun
.357 magnum
rifle
HD / riot shotgun
CZ ccw
Beretta
tactical handgun

Ultimate? Why it is the mighty Glock! I hear it is coming with a cork screw and bottle opener next year!:D

Alright gang, put down the flamethrowers. I am only kidding.:scrutiny: :D

ROFLMAO @ Path

Its obvious- the ultimate gun will be what you choose it to be.

Those threads are asking what nearly all threads do... what do YOU think is the X gun =)

(personally is HK for me, in whatever trim)

hehe

The ultimate gun....

I've always felt that the ultimate gun is one that's not too costly, reliable, accurate, simply designed, well made, finished nicely, ergonomically comfortable, easy to use, well balanced, and above all, it's gotta look good.

Kind of like cars...
Two guys will argue till hell freezes over which car is better, and I've seen it more so with guns...

Ultimately, the best gun is the one that works the best for you...

My 2 cents???
Colt 1911 .45 ACP for pistol
Mossberg 500 for a shotgun
The AK-47 series of assault rifles

I got a good chuckle out of the pic Rembrandt!

What is a BBQ gun?

I have an ultra magnum, but I suppose Rembrownchester will come out with an "ultimate magnum" sooner or later!

I never understand the point of any of these threads. I'm sure it's just for stimulating some discussion, but really you're never gonna get a definite answer. Everybody is going to have their own opinions on what is the ultimate of anything. Even if you give very strict guidelines such as inexpensive, reliable, light recoil, concealable handgun you're gonna get answers ranging from browning hi powers and glocks to Makarovs and Taurus.

With that being said, I'll still read every single one that gets posted because I'm easily entertained. Oh, and my vote for ultimate pimp gun goes to those gold plated or gold toned desert eagle 50ae. Lotsa bling!

Where is the Ultimate Beretta thread? The only post with 'Beretta' and 'ultimate' is one for sale with 0 replies.

I'm surprised we haven't been overrun with "I train and you don't" type of 'tacticaller than thou' replies..yet...

YOUR ultimate vs. MY strong preference

In an “Ultimate†discussion, in another THR forum, I recently wrote:
If I were king of the universe, I would promulgate SEVERE penalties for the misuse of the terms ULTIMATE and UNIQUE. There is only one ULTIMATE anything. If there's any serious discussion to be had on the topic, then ULTIMATE does NOT apply. ("And the 870 shotgun loaded with [insert favorite size] buickshot is the ULTIMATE cape buffalo stopper!")

Something is only UNIQUE if it is one-of-a-kind. "Pretty unique," or "Almost unique," are nonsense terms.
(Yeah, it’s a bit conceited, quoting oneself -- ;) ) There may be some validity in stating that one is entirely satisfied that his/her needs in this particular area are met by such-and-such a choice of tool; that he feels no urge to seek anything better to meet a specific need. I reckon that it might serve to state that, “MY ultimate choice in this area is - - - [whatever.] YOUR choice in the same field could well differ.†I still have trouble with someone else telling me that a given item is THE ULTIMATE, and that my thoughts, or yours, simply do not count.

Returning to the topic opener, I have strong feelings about certain of MY choices in some of those categories. Others of them simply don’t matter to me.

HD / riot shotgun - - I’m satisfied with a Remington 1100, 20†barrel, rifle sights and a butt cuff.

Hunting shotgun - - A different 1100, with appropriate barrel.

Handgun - - Being such a handgun enthusiast, I must go to categories:
- - carry gun/ccw gun. Colt Commander
- - combat revolver. This week, probably a Model 65 3â€.
- - tactical handgun. Colt Government Model
- - pocket gun. Two-inch, alloy frame .38 OR K-T P3AT
- - home defense revolver. Whatever’s handy would suit me.
- - BBQ gun. An old Government Model, fully engraved and nickeled, with pearl-and-gold stocks.
- - home defense gun for women. (Broad spectrum) I tend to suggest a smooth DA .38. In our household, my wife is okay with anything apt to be outside the safe. One of her three personal carry pieces would serve well . . .

urban rifle - - Colt AR15

Okay, I admit it - -- This thread’s kinda fun, after all.

:D

duckslayer - -

You caught my typo, for sure. :D

Doesn't matter, though - - For the lad that inspired THAT line, it could as well be Oldsmobile, Chevy, or BMWshot.

Johnny Guest, you wrote,

Hey, we like that in a Moderator. :D

duckslayer, a BBQ gun is an elegant-but-functional carry piece that's pretty enough (quoting somebody; sorry that I don't recall who it was) "not to offend the Governor's wife" at a fancy Texas barbecue. Engraved 1911s, Pythons and Smith Magnums are popular, and they're done much in the style of rembrandt's "Ultimate Dinner Party Tuxedo Gun." In fact, that would make a marvelous BBQ gun.

Any tool is only as good as the operator.

This Practical guy is really pissed about Coyote Brown getting to be the "T" word....hell I've using burlap 'tater bags for years,... Carhart , LLBean "Brown" ..and such. Lodgon Green too.

"T" folks ....go pick another color - I hear Purple is available. :p
