We declare that citizens should be disarmed in the name of peace. We will however allow blackpowder muzzleloaders of the matchlock variety for subsistence hunting in select cases. These must be no less than 40" overall and fire just one shot at a time. Must not be larger than 50 caliber rifle or 28 gauge smoothbore. Such guns must be registered/licensed yearly with the UN and the owner must pay a yearly tax of 1 million dollars each year payable to the UN in New York for the priviledge of owning said hunting firearm. The UN may revoke the license at any time and confiscate the said firearm.

No such gun restrictions of any kind may be placed on government agencies, militaries and any government contractors or UN employees and troops.

-Sincerely the gun haters at the UN

"PS and these rules don't apply to anyone named Kofi Annan, he has the right to tromp all over NYC with bodyguards carrying unregistered MP5Ks and claim diplomatic immunity. PPS and Chuck Schumer keeps his TEC-9 too. Love, the UN."

Such a brilliant plan- it will involve bringing their henchmen within range of my rifles and giving me ample reason to shoot.

Somehow I doubt that they will be so foolish as to make a direct attempt. Benefits of implementation will be small, the costs would be high and the likelihood of long term success would be slim. Additionally, the costs of failure would be astronomical. If the people developed a distrust or hatred of their own rulers and still possessed the arms with which to take action, attempts to establish real control later (even over much less contentious issues) would become painful and expensive.

I'm sure our government is capable of weighing the likely results of its actions and probably isnt going to initiate a nationwide Waco seige. At least not intentionally. I dont think the UN is going to get very far without help from within the country. The blue helmets are not exactly renowned for their military prowess.

No. It was an attempt at satire.

I think the original post is hyperbole.
