This is the hopes of Mr. O and Hillary that it would negate our 2A. I just heard bits of a news blurb that several member nations - Iran - Russia Etc have already blocked this thing. Anybody heard like wise? Nothing more was said on any channel. Certainly would set the antis back a step.

Here is a link to a story on it

FWIW, 2A can't be negated by treaty. The Constitution overrides all treaty obligations. What can be affected is existing statute law at both the federal and state level.

Was there any evidence that this was supported by our administration as a way to control firearms within our own borders? If so I would be very interested to read it.

Even more to the point- where is the evidence that this administration would be more beholden to the US Constitution than it would be to the UN charter? Nothing good for the US ever comes out of the UN.

Well, they DID take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Haven't seen such an oath regarding the UN Charter. But like other things with this administration, we may have to pass it to see what's in it.

Part of the reason the treaty proposal died in the conference is that the US insisted on consensus acceptance of the treaty rather than a majority vote.

The treaty proposal is reportedly being sent to the UN Secretary General with a recommendation that it be presented to the General Assembly for a vote, and it would undoubtedly receive majority support. At that point, it will be interesting to see whether the Administration tries to get the Senate to ratify the treaty.

This is informative and educational. Thanks to you guys for starting this and responding.

What really shocked me about three years ago was that I stumbled onto some Brit/Euro "Arms Control" website, which I thought habe been 'bookmarked' (nope).

It describe their efforts to spend tax euros/pounds for the destruction of heapsd of surplus rifles and ammo. But it did not list the countries, which did not surprise me.

Organizations seldom don't want to advertise costly actions which are shameful and cowardly.

About that same time, an Aussie at Gunboards reported that a friend in South Africa had walked into a gun shop.

He watched gun store staff destroying Brens and Lee-Enfield bolt-action rifles, under govt. orders!
Maybe this was caused by the UN and our very gracious Senator Frankenstein (?)....

The small arms treaty to bypass the 2A has been a myth for years. Even Snopes has it as a myth from 2010 and it predates that time as well...

You haven't heard anything on TV about it affecting US gun control because it doesn't.

OK Thanks for the insights. I've been getting several E-mails lately from some new gun rights groups, about how dangerous this treaty is, and of course send us $20 or $30, to help fight the thing. May be all about money.

Won't pass the Senate. Not enough votes as it requires a 2/3 majority to pass.

Federal Constitutional law trumps this any day. I am not saying that there are pols that want to take the 2nd Amendment down, but if this really did come to fruition, I truly believe this would cause serious, serious civil unrest domestically.

If you do a search here for UN Gun Ban Treaty, you'll see we've been discussing this every few weeks for years now. PLENTY of reading right here at THR already.
