Uniforms in War

I am trying to explore the concept of an official uniform in relation to morality.

I am picturing the UN crushing the US military in days, and a homegrown resistance to a technologically superior, professional military.

What would your moral obligation be? Please explain.

to the broader question though... I ain't in no army, I never intend to BE in anybody's army, and I don't even want to LOOK like I'm in no army.

I am in no army either. Never was. Once upon a time I was in the Marine Corps though...........

Anyhow, you do what you gotta do. If you are armed and able and won't do what needs doing, well, like the saying goes: "All that it takes for evil to win is for good men to do nothing."

If fighting against an occupying force in your home country using guerrilla warfare, wear whatever you deem necessary to get the job done. However, do not expect to be treated as a soldier if captured, but a criminal, spy or terrorist.

Not in uniform: Shot on sight (or shot in the back of the head once discovered)
In uniform: Shot on sight if you dont surrender first.

Not very good odds either way, I'm not sure which one I would do, it would sure depend on the circumstances (like if I was with a group of professionals or alone).

I would never wear a uniform because I serve the cause of justice better alive than dead...

2 reasons...

1. The US is the only one who even TRIES to abide by the Geneva Conventions. Your chances are the same either way.

2. I wouldn't be planning to surrender anyway...

If I were in the situation you described, I would wear whatever was effective, helped me to blend in and not stand out like a sore thumb and was available. The trouble with blue jeans is that color stands out like a sore thumb, so yes in a natural setting I would prefer camo, kakhi, or olive-drab type clothes, that blend in with the environment, if that is the uniform available, then I'm in it. If the uniform was British red, well no way.
Doubt the few days scenario, however if we were hit with limited nuclear strike, our armed services would be stressed to respond to a massive point invasion. Local Citizen resistance/harrassment would be important til what survives of our military could respond.

A U.N. security team hardly constitutes an “invasion force.†A small, covert-ops force could easily slip into our country, as we well know, but an invading army entering the country is something else. I maintain that it can’t currently be done.

Of course the UN will not crush the united states... I should have said that I was LMAO or something. I do not need a tinfoil hat.

The reason I asked this question is that there was a discussion that I was having, that seemed to indicate that people who would not wear a uniform to do battle with a sophisticated enemy are less than human. I was curious as to how many who walk the high road are (according to some) less than human.

I got the results I pretty much expected. 80-90% (sub-human).

I voted for,

I would wear a uniform in action against occupying forces if I could get one. If I couldn't get one, my cause is just, so I will make due.

The uniform hanging in my closet will suffice. It would assure that the guys in my unit wouldn't target me, as well as prevent other National Guardsmen from indiscriminantly mowing me down.

We are talking about the UN here, right? Hopefully y'all won't shoot at someone dressed in Woodland Camo with a like-colored K-pot. Aim for the blue!

Civilians who spontaneously take up arms to resist an invading force do not need to wear uniforms to avoid "illegal combatant" treatment under the Geneva Convention. That said, once we got organized, while bearing arms I would prefer that any units bear some insignia -- does NOT have to be a bright red target under Geneva Convention, just an insignia -- to show units are organized and under some command structure. The Geneva Convention exists for a reason. It really is a GOOD THING.
