Upgrading powder scale

OK so now I am reloading a huge variety of cartrages for myself and friends, and my old cheezy beam scale and el-chepo powder dispenser are taking way too much time switching from 270WSM to 9x19 to 30-06 to 40 S&W to 6.5x55....etc, and I am looking to possibly upgrade to a digital dispenser/scale. What units do you guys recommend and how much do they cost? Are there any downsides to going digital?

Mine is a Smartreloader. I don't remember the cost but it seems like it was $200. The only down side I can think of is you my end up with to much time on your hands. I didn't have that problem tho.

I have the RCBS Chargemaster. A higher upfront cost but it's worked perfectly. Only downside I found is that it's made in China. Would have preferred to buy a PACT but after weeks I never received the scale I ordered.

When you say cheezy beam scale, what exactly are you referring too? I consider any beam scale that produces accurate measurements to be anything but cheezy. From a trust stand point, you'll never find a digitial that is as reliablly accurate as a typical beam scale. All it takes is a low battery or some other electronic problem that could easily slip by you, for a digital to fail to do it's job accurately.

Most electronic devices will be more efficient than their mechanical counter part, that goes without saying. But when they do fail it is often difficult to notice they have developed a problem, and usually impossible for the average perosn to diagnose and repair. I'll get by with my 35 yr. old cheezy El Cheapo RCBS 5-10.

LOL no I have nothing against beam scales, but that little flimsy thing that came with my Lee press is laughable, it won't stop bouncing and if you try to stop it it sticks, far and away the worst scale I have ever used, but if you have all day it does give accurate measurements. Unfortunetly it will not weight anything over 100gr so I cannot weigh my bullets or brass.

If you are loading handgun, an electronic dispenser/scale will be too slow. Get a good powder measure if you disappointed with the one you have.

The scale that comes with the electronic dispenser/scale can be used to calibrate the powder measure.

Even then, I only use my electronic dispenser/scale for working up loads. Once I have settled on a load, I dispense it from a drum style measure checking it on my scale.

BINGO! I can say this is very true. Very slow.
If you get just the scale, That may be fine but the dispenser is the slow part for pistol. Not bad for rifle.

You can always get one of the Lyman scales. There about half the cost of RCBS I think and they work just as fine as I have read from others.

My scale is way more accurate then my RCBS 505 was.

My dispenser is fast. It will have a 50+gn load dropped faster then I can get a bullet seated. It would be faster then I would cycle my progressive but the time taken to dump the charge then put the pan back would take more then twice as long. I also use it to measure shot but you have to prop the front up about a .25" or it will empty the hopper when it starts running.

I too have the RCBS Chargemaster and find it to be highly accurate. I bought a precision weight set to check it periodically and it is always on. Sure makes me rest easy when reloading. To me, that is the key...having something I trust.
